Chapter 74 - chapter 75 morning

Morning light slipped quietly into the kitchen, pale gold against the counters.

Cynthia stood by the coffee machine, still in one of Alexander's oversized shirts, the sleeves rolled up. The house felt different in daylight—warmer, calmer, almost unreal.

She was just pouring water when she heard footsteps behind her.

Alexander.

"Good morning," he said softly.

She turned and smiled. "Morning."

For a moment, they just looked at each other. The memories of last night lingered between them—unspoken, heavy, but no longer painful.

"You didn't sleep well," he said gently.

She shrugged. "Too much on my mind."

He stepped closer, resting one hand lightly on the counter near her. "About last night… are you okay?"

She nodded. "I am now."

The coffee machine hissed, breaking the silence.

Alexander reached past her to grab a mug, and his arm brushed hers.

They both froze.

Cynthia looked up at him, her heart racing. Alexander's hand hovered near her arm, uncertain.

"Cynthia…" he said quietly.

She didn't pull away.

Instead, she turned slightly toward him.

His fingers lightly touched her hand—just a gentle, careful touch, as if asking permission.

She felt a warm shiver run through her.

"I don't want to make you uncomfortable," he said.

"You're not," she whispered.

Slowly, he lifted his hand to her cheek. His touch was warm, steady, protective.

Her breath caught.

"I've tried to ignore this," he said. "But I can't anymore."

She swallowed. "Neither can I."

For a second, neither of them moved.

Then Alexander leaned in.he placed his lips on hers before linking her bottom lips

The kiss was soft—hesitant at first—like they were afraid the moment might disappear. It wasn't rushed. It wasn't dramatic.

It was real.

Cynthia felt her heart slow, then race again. She placed one hand lightly on his chest, feeling his heartbeat beneath her palm.

They pulled back slightly, foreheads touching.

"I care about you," he said quietly. "More than I should."

She smiled softly. "I've been trying to deny it too."

He searched her face. "This isn't just confusion?"

"No," she said. "It's not."

He exhaled, relief and emotion mixing in his eyes.

They just stayed there—close, calm, and finally honest.

Outside, the world continued as normal.

Inside, something new had begun.
