Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Dani's POV

Inside the meeting room was intense. I had been waiting for this moment all my life, and it was

finally here. All my hard work paid off.

"We just need you to sign here, and that would be all," the representative of the company

explained, and I felt my heart bubble with joy.

I picked up the pen, staring blankly at the space that required my signature. My excitement

knew no bounds, and since my lawyer had gone through it, there was no room for delay.

I dashed the pen over the plane space, imprinting my signature on it with a smile on my face.

Once the deal was sealed, I stood up, and received a handshake from the representative of the

multimillionaire company that needed my service.

"Thanks so much, and I look forward to working with you," I expressed, picking up my purse and

other things before I walked out of the meeting hall with my guards by my side. They helped

with the door, and we walked through the hallway.

However, the moment I stepped out of the hotel where the meeting had been held, I was

blocked by journalists, hungry to know what had happened.

"Miss Dani. We heard you have just signed a multimillionaire deal, your biggest deal yet, is it

true?"

Before I could answer, another question hit me.

"Is it true you're the face of the luxury brand?"

"What's the contract details?"

So many questions, and I was swarmed with paparazzi. They kept asking me questions after

questions.

However, as I tried to avoid them, my eyes caught sight of a little boy trying to cross the road.

I paused, watching how he stared left and right. I wondered what a young boy was doing trying

to cross the road.

As I watched him, the paparazzi took pictures, the flashes from their cameras, distracting me

from watching him.

For some reason, seeing that young boy got me worried. I didn't know why, but I felt uneasy

seeing such a kid trying to cross the road himself. He was way too young to be alone.

So many questions ran through my mind, and the most dominant one was, "doesn't he have a

guardian?"

Suddenly, he took the initiative, walking right into the road. My eyes widened because instead of

running across, he stopped right in the middle of the road, looking around as though he was

trying to find something, or someone.

At first, I was just concerned, but when I hewed the horn coming from an upcoming vehicle, I

turned pale.

"No, no…" I whispered at first, feeling my body tense up.

I didn't know if it was initiative, or if it was just me trying to be the hero, but I scurried through the

unforgiving paparazzi. My heart raced, and I didn't mind the 6-inch heel I was putting on.

All that mattered was for the boy to be safe.

Everything seemed to be going in slow motion, and my hair danced along with the wind.

However, I knew it was all happening too fast.

The car was so close, but I was able to reach it first. My hands pushed the young boy out of the

way, but I wasn't safe from the oncoming vehicle.

Before I would drag my feet away, I was hit hard, causing my body to fly midair before landing

back on the tiled road.

Everything turned hazy, I heard screams, murmurs, calls for help, but I smiled when I saw the

little boy at the other side of the road. His face was pale in shock, his hands held together as he

processed what had just happened.

My ears caught the sound of sirens blaring before my eyes finally welcomed the darkness.

Slowly opening my eyes, the beeping sound of a machine caused me to groan.

"Turn it off…" I groaned at first, but when it continued, my gaze moved towards where the sound

came from, and I realized I wasn't in my room.

Creased lines, and wave patterns appeared on my forehead, and I squinted my eyes. Suddenly,

my eyes widened as memories of everything that happened came rushing in.

I immediately pushed myself to sit up, staring at my legs that were bandaged.

"What?" I gasped. I was worried about the way things were. Where was the doctor, I needed to

know how I was doing.

Just as I spoke, the door was pushed open, grabbing my attention. A man dressed in a long

white coat stepped in, and as soon as he saw me awake, he passed me a warm smile.

"Miss Dani Jones."

I wasn't shocked he knew my name. After all, everyone in the country knew who I was.

"Good afternoon doctor," I greeted, still in pain, and he nodded, but that wasn't what I wanted. I

wanted to know the situation at hand.

"Miss Dani you're lucky to be alive, but the accident left you with major injuries."

I listened attentively, heart hammering, and my palm being glazed with sweat. I was so nervous.

When the doctor saw how much I paid attention, he continued. "The major injury was to your

legs." As he said it, my gaze went straight for my legs that were bandaged.

He stopped again. Seems like he was taking it bit by bit to make sure I took it in, but not in the

wrong way.

"I'm sorry, but your legs lost their function in the accident."

My brows kneaded, my eyes squinted as I tried to process what he was saying.

I stammered. "W-what, what do you mean?"

"I mean you'll not be able to walk again. I'm so sorry."

At first, it seemed funny, so I let out a laugh that was obviously filled with pain before bursting

into tears.

"No, please doctor do something." I held the hand of the doctor who tried to comfort me, and

started to sob.

"Please do something. Please… I'll pay any amount. I just signed a life-changing deal, please…"

I pleaded, but the doctor gently pulled his hands away.

"I'm sorry miss, but there's nothing I can do," he expressed with a hint of sadness in his tone,

before turning his back to me, using the door after covering the little distance.

I remained there, pondering on my life when someone else came in. I thought it was the doctor,

I had hoped he'd return to give me good news, but when my gaze was raised, it was someone

else, someone familiar, a representative of the company I had just signed a contract with.

"Good day, Miss Dani. How are you feeling?" He asked, standing at the door until I gestured to

him to come.

He did as I said, eyes fixed on me before going to my legs, and then my face again. I felt

horrible. Was this how everything was supposed to play out?

"Miss Dani we truly sympathise with you on everything that has happened to you, especially you

losing your leg function." My heart drummed, and my eyes remained planted on him.

"Thank you, but there's no need to sympathise. I'll be back on my feet, and ready to work in no

time," I expressed boldly, ignoring the doctor's words.

But he sighed. "We know that, and we wish you well. However, for now, the company is in need

of a model who can begin work almost immediately."

My eyes widened more, and I felt my heart sink. I felt I knew how this was going to end.

"No please don't do this, I'll recover, please…" tears glistened in my eyes as I pleaded.

"I'm just a representative from the company, and I have to follow direct orders from my bosses.

Besides, the contract clearly stated something about us being able to terminate the contract if

we don't see you fit, and right now, you're not medically fit."

My chest fell, and my head lowered. However, the next thing I heard was him saying excuse me

before the sound of the door was heard.

Everything I worked for was slipping right before my fingers. What did I do to deserve this?

In the frustration of it all, I laid back down, staring at the ceiling. My heart drummed, and ached,

but I chose to remain strong.

Just then, someone unfamiliar approached me. He was a fine man, suited up, and I doubted he

was a doctor. How did he get in here? I questioned inwardly but realized I must have been the

one not paying attention.

"You're Dani Jones, right?" He asked the moment he was close to me, and when I nodded, he

flashed me a smile.

"Yes I am." I squinted my eyes. "I'm sorry, do I know you?"

"No you don't, but I'm the man you saved his son. I just wanted to say, thank you." He paused,

but I felt a lot of things. I felt happiness, regret, and so much more.

I hummed. "It's fine. I guess everything was destined to happen like this, so I'll accept my fate."

"Fate?" He asked with raised brows, and came closer, taking my hands in his. "How about I be

your destiny?"

I snapped my gaze towards him, trying to pull my hands away, but he stared into my eyes, dead

serious. "Will you marry me?"
