Chapter 43 - Imitate

He asked with a mix of amusement and slight apprehension. He headed to the kitchen to start making hot chocolate, occasionally glancing back at Giyuu with a playful warning look. "You better not make me jump and spill this all over the floor." Sanemi returned to the living room with two steaming mugs of hot chocolate, carefully balancing them.

"I swear, if I see one jumpscare and drop these, you're cleaning up the mess." He teased, setting the mugs down on the coffee table and settling onto the couch. He made sure to position himself protectively close to Giyuu, though he tried to maintain his tough exterior.

"What did you pick anyway? Something about haunted dolls or what?" Sanemi's face paled slightly at the title.

"Oh great, Pennywise is coming back to haunt me. Perfect choice, Giyuu." He muttered sarcastically, pulling a blanket over both of them. He grabbed his hot chocolate and took a long sip, as if preparing for battle.

"If I scream like a little girl, just know it's all your fault."He joked, though his eyes were already fixed nervously on the screen as the movie began. As the first scene played, Sanemi instinctively pulled Giyuu closer, his arm wrapping protectively around him.

"This is definitely payback for the festival, isn't it?" He whispered, trying to sound tough despite his obvious discomfort. His eyes kept darting between the screen and his hot chocolate mug, clearly torn between drinking and needing something to hold onto.

"I hate clowns. Why do they always have to be in horror movies?" During a particularly tense scene, Sanemi accidentally spilled some hot chocolate on himself, jumping slightly.

"Damn it!" He cursed under his breath, setting the mug down quickly. His face was flushed with embarrassment as he tried to wipe the stain off his shirt.

"Don't laugh at me. That clown just popped up out of nowhere!" He protested defensively, though he couldn't help but chuckle at his own reaction. Giyuu couldn't help but smile at Sanemi's flustered state, but he tried to hide it by taking a sip of his own hot chocolate.

"You're cute when you're scared." He teased gently, reaching for the remote to pause the movie. The room was suddenly quiet except for the sound of their breathing and the distant hum of the television.

"Want me to change it to something else?"

Giyuu asked, though his tone suggested he was enjoying Sanemi's reaction too much to stop. Sanemi quickly shook his head, trying to maintain his pride despite his obvious discomfort.

"No way! I can handle this. Just... maybe hold my hand or something?" He admitted with a sheepish grin, extending his hand toward Giyuu. His tough exterior was cracking as another suspenseful moment built on screen.

"And maybe we could get more hot chocolate after this?" He added hopefully, already leaning back into the couch with anticipation for the next jump scare. Giyuu took Sanemi's hand, intertwining their fingers and giving it a reassuring squeeze.

"You're such a big baby." He teased affectionately, though he made sure to keep his hold firm. As the movie continued, Giyuu occasionally glanced at Sanemi, enjoying how he tried to act brave while squeezing his hand tighter during scary moments.

"I'll protect you from the scary clowns, don't worry." Sanemi had gradually moved closer and closer to Giyuu, until he was practically in his lap during the more intense scenes.

"This is purely strategic positioning for optimal protection." He claimed with a straight face, though his position clearly contradicted his words. He had one arm wrapped around Giyuu's neck and his legs draped across Giyuu's lap, the blanket now covering both of them completely.

"And I'm not scared. I'm just... conserving body heat." Sanemi's face was pressed against Giyuu's shoulder as another frightening scene unfolded on screen.

"Did you hear that? That sound... it's definitely not my heart racing."

He whispered unconvincingly, his grip on Giyuu tightening again. His usual confident demeanor was completely gone, replaced by a need for comfort as he buried himself closer into Giyuu's embrace. "Maybe we should watch something else... like a cooking show or something?" Giyuu chuckled softly at Sanemi's suggestion, finding his vulnerability endearing.

"But you're so comfortable right now. Plus, the clowns are almost gone." He teased, running his fingers through Sanemi's hair in a soothing motion. The movie was nearing its climax, and Sanemi was practically trembling despite Giyuu's attempts to calm him.

"Just a few more minutes, brave one." As the credits finally rolled, Sanemi let out a long sigh of relief, though he didn't move from his position on Giyuu's lap.

"I hate you for making me watch that." He mumbled into Giyuu's shirt, but there was no real malice in his voice. He shifted slightly, now looking up at Giyuu with a mixture of embarrassment and affection.

But... thanks for being my human shield." Giyuu smiled warmly, enjoying the rare moment of Sanemi being so openly affectionate.

"Anytime. Though I must say, you're quite the cuddly horror movie watcher." He teased, gently poking Sanemi's side. The room was now bathed in the soft glow of the television, and the stuffed animals from earlier watched silently from their corner. "Should we call it a night? Or do you want to watch something less... terrifying?" Sanemi considered for a moment, then shook his head against Giyuu's chest.

"Actually, can we stay like this for a bit longer? Just... enjoy the quiet." His voice was unusually soft and vulnerable, different from his usual confident tone. He shifted to get more comfortable, resting his head more comfortably against Giyuu's shoulder.
