Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Ruined Kingdom

"My eyelids opened slowly as flashes of white and black light blurred my vision."

"Argh," I groaned. "am I in heaven?".

"Hahaha! You're not in heaven yet, my friend. You're alive..." A deep voice echoed from the shadows_ your still within the walls of Aslan.

"Argh, why can't i move? "I tried to raise my right hand, but it refused to budge_ tightly bound to something behind me."

Don't bother moving around much my friend, i tied you up very well to that pillar behind you.

"When I found you buried in the rubble, I dragged you out, not knowing if you'd survive." Your bones were cracked, and you lost so much blood, that i had to do a little treatment on you_ "Call me Jacob," he said.

'Call me Alucard', thank you for saving me_ but i would have preferred you left me there to die at least i would have been with my family by now.

"Heh, don't be foolish friend, jacob responded in a calming tone, you survived this horde_ which means something greater awaits you from here onwards".

"With a sharp twist of my wrists, the ropes snapped."

"Ah" seems my eyes were right about you, your not ordinary are you, jacob asked, his focus heavily locked onto my face, mouth smiling like a secret hidden.

"You tied me up. Testing me, or afraid of what I might do?", though am not bother about that, i said exercising my wrists.

My question remains unanswered, tell me friend who are you, are you ordinary or extraordinary, jacob asked again pushing down a big jar filled with water towards me.

"I drained the jar in one go, wiping my chin with a sleeve."

"I'm Alucard of the Blade Arts." Am as ordinary as they come like you, i answered looking at the destroyed tower we sat in, "The air reeking of blood and charred stone, dust clinging to every breath."

"I'm Jacob, a swordsman.", I used to be the commander of the kings guard. or what's left of it.

"But my, my, i must confess though that it is rare to come across, "A Blade Art user... Fate has a cruel sense of humor, don't you think, Jacob smiled_ stroking his chin."

Jacob, once again thank you for saving my life, now tell me how many days has it been since you found me and what's the current situation of the kingdom, i asked tapping my clothes as dust fell from it.

It's been a week already since i found you in the rubbles and since the destruction of the kingdom, The king is dead. "Jacob's gauntlet fists trembled, the metal creaking under his grip."

 "Thousands of swordsmen_ gone."

Mercenaries hundreds of them dead. Many others i cannot name for now.

I lost my wife, child and brother. Before i got to where they were_ the horde had already gotten to them. I buried their bodies inside our destroyed home. Then getting back to the palace the kings personal guards had all been wiped out along with the king and the royal family.

"This horde came to pass judgement on Everything."

My wife and child_ gone. I couldn't save them." Alucard said his hands clenching into fists, i tried to save them but fate had other plans for me, he said looking at Jacob's fair skinned face, body bigger than his_ seven feet in height, wearing a dark armor that covered his whole body except his face. And a big sword that hung at his back.

"Seems we all went through the same fate, though it feels like your keeping something away from me, but don't bother about it much_ i too have my very own secret, Jacob said."

We had one of the best military in the world, still the horde slaughtered us like our numbers and strength meant nothing to them, i exclaimed looking at the dust below.

We had numbers yes, strong men yes, mercenaries yes, but you cannot compare it to what we were up against_ i have never in my long life seen demons, monsters and beasts work together in perfect unison like i saw when they invaded, Jacob responded he's face serious.

It's also unknown to me, we blade arts users have gone on too many missions in and out of the kingdom to keep count.

We've killed monsters for materials, slaughtered beast's for their powerful blood and fought demons to learn from their unmatched savagery and killing intent.

But the sudden invasion was a shock down the bone.

"The horde will reach the kingdom of Sparta soon. Their walls won't hold long, but they'll buy time_ time we need to rally survivors, who can still fight," Jacob said looking at the blue sky filled with smoke and vultures.

How many do you think will be enough to stop this abomination? we couldn't stop the horde even with our different talents and skills and we lack enough information about this unprecedented event, i said standing to my feet.

We don't need numbers right now Alucard, what we need right now is individual skills, will and talents like you and I, numbers will only feed the stomachs of the horde, I vow to end this disaster, Jacob said his determination visible, eyes serious like an eagle.

Tell me one thing Alucard, how is it that the "blade Arts" still exist?

According to the stories out of the many talents and skills the world was blessed with by the gods_ "Blade Arts, was the rarest of them all."

Only a handful of ten persons were blessed with that rare talent and skill and during the first war of the kingdoms they all died, their death brought an end to the greatest war in the world, or so the stories says Jacob explained.

That is true and wrong at the same time, the stories lie on one end.

And speak the truth on the other end, i said gently walking around in circles.

How? Jacob asked, his voice cold as the corpses, his eyes studying my movements.

The kingdoms went to war not against theirselves but the "Blade Arts."

Because they feared the power those ten ancestors of mine possessed_ they tried to control it, but the blade arts resisted.

Then the kingdoms came together under a treaty, bringing war never seen before on just ten persons. They succeeded but not without a heavy loss. My ancestors did not die alone, they slaughtered tens of thousands different talents and skills before dying on that day.

The stories lie's after all, but they have one thing in common "death," and how do people who died pass on their talent and skills, Jacob asked.

One of them did not follow the rules, we blade arts users are meant to wait until we age fifty, before we marry or have sex with anyone_ but one of them did not abide by that rule and here i am today.

"I see, well that is a believable story compared to what I've heard over the years, so how many of you are out there right now, Jacob asked."

We are ten same number as our ancestors, i said swinging my blade around, as i continued walking in circles around Jacob.

Join me on my quest Alucard, I will need powerful men like you who would aid me, Jacob said stretching forth his right hand to me.

I slowly stopped walking, and stood in front of Jacob, his eyes serious as it steered down at me.

Your quest Jacob not mine, find those who are interested in saving the world like you, for now i just wish to do my own thing, looking deeply into his eyes i said.

Healing your body until it recovered wasn't cheap Alucard, and you were bestowed with the talent and skills of blade arts_ don't think am letting you leave just like that, Jacob said his tone becoming arrogant, his hands clenched into fists.
