Evelin's POV
I kept my mouth shut.
"You know I've got more resources to keep you safe here in Thornvale than Allen could ever dream of. Even if everything hits the fan, I can shield you. But when you need backup, Allen's the only one who comes to mind?" Jimmy's eyes burned into mine.
I let out a long breath. "Allen's been my partner for years. We've worked so many missions together that coordinating with him is like breathing. That's exactly why I set him up to get the check-in text."
The second I'd stepped into this hotel, I'd cancelled that scheduled message to Allen anyway.
"You've never partnered with me before—how can you be sure we wouldn't click just as well?" Jimmy pressed.
"You've already done so much for me. You shouldn't have to handle every little detail too," I said back.
A bitter smile crossed Jimmy's face.
