Jimmy's POV
Wallace went still for a moment.
The Taylor family had worked as the Hamilton family's personal physicians for generations, and his old man had been tight with my father, Jensen. Obviously, he'd tried talking Jensen out of going through with it.
Didn't matter. Jensen bulldozed ahead with that marriage anyway, using pure brutality to make it happen, and the whole thing crashed and burned in the end.
And Wallace's father had been carrying that guilt around ever since.
Wallace pressed, "Didn't you swear you'd never become your father? If you meant that, maybe it's time to let Evelin go."
"Right, I won't become him. Which means I won't trap Evelin into staying with me," I muttered. What I craved was her heart freely given—I just wanted us back to how we were, warm and right.
"So you're really going to keep being pig-headed about this?" Wallace pushed.
