Summer's heart sank deeper into uncertainty. Emotion flooded her, leaving her unable to tell what was real anymore—the concern she had seen in Gideon's eyes, or the cruelty he had shown her in the past.
"Stop fantasizing about getting back with him," Danica warned coldly. "It will never happen. If you want to live peacefully, leave this place."
She pulled out a check from her bag and shoved it into Summer's hand. "Take it. Five million. Go wherever you like, don't ever appear in front of him again."
Summer stared at the amount written on the check, a bitter, mocking smile tugging at her lips.
"Five million to chase me away again," she scoffed. "Six years ago, you schemed against me and ruined my marriage. You took him from me. And even after all that, you still couldn't keep him."
She lifted the check. "So now you are paying me to leave him. That only proves that he has never truly been under your control."
She tore the check in half and tossed the pieces back at Danica.
