Summer hadn't thought that far. She had simply thanked Landon and stepped out of the car. He hadn't gotten out to walk her inside either. Perhaps he had been upset after she rejected his proposal.
She didn't want to dwell on it, much less discuss it.
"I told him to leave," she lied to avoid dragging the matter out.
Chloe stared at her in disbelief. "But he should've insisted on walking you in—"
"That's enough, Chloe," Summer cut her off. "Stop blaming him. Don't forget how much Landon has done for us. We wouldn't have survived in this new place if it weren't for him."
Chloe fell silent, guilt washing over her. In her anger, she had forgotten all the favors Landon had done for them.
"I'm sorry," she murmured. "I won't blame him again."
"I'm hungry," Summer said, changing the subject. "Could you bring me something to eat?"
Chloe's smile returned. "Stay here. I'll be right back."
Once Chloe left, Summer closed her eyes.
