Chapter 13 - chapter thirteen: loyalty

Life had settled into a rhythm different cities, new friends, and the endless pace of university life for me.

Alfred, meanwhile, was thriving. His mini business had begun to flourish, and he was making a name for himself as a sound engineer, planning his future with care and determination. Even with his success, he never forgot me.

Whenever I felt broken, frustrated, or overwhelmed by school, he was there — a comforting voice on the phone, a patient tutor through late-night calls, a shoulder to lean on in my heart. He became my angel in disguise, quietly guiding me, encouraging me, praying for me during his devotions, and over the phone, asking for God's protection over me.

"Splendour," he would whisper softly one night, "don't cry. You are stronger than you think. I believe in you."

And I believed him. His faith in me, his steady love, gave me the courage to keep moving forward, even on the days I felt I couldn't.

Despite the seriousness of life and studies, we always found ways to laugh together. I never forgot to tell him the small, funny details of my day — like how many guys had asked me out.

"You will not believe how many today, Alfred!" I would giggle, hiding my blushing face behind my phone.

He would laugh until I joined in, tears rolling down our cheeks. "Splendour… you're unstoppable! All these boys chasing you, and you're still mine, right?"

"Yes! Still yours, forever," I replied, grinning.

Those moments — the laughter, the teasing, the shared secrets — reminded me that love wasn't only about solemn promises or whispered confessions. It was also joy, warmth, and finding someone who could make you laugh even when the world felt heavy.

Alfred's calls, his prayers, his encouragement, his laughter, and his love became the heartbeat I carried with me every day. No distance, no challenge, no temptation could break what we had built.

Together, we were unstoppable — a team, a force, and two hearts tied forever by love, trust, and laughter.
