Chapter 12 - chapter twelve: Across the distance

University was a whole new world, new friends, new routines, and a city that felt both exciting and intimidating. I tried to soak it all in, but my thoughts kept drifting to Alfred.

Naomi had also been admitted to study Law, but at a different university. Even though we were on separate campuses, she remained my anchor, my confidante. We laughed over phone calls, shared study tips, and encouraged each other through the challenges of our new lives.

Phones became our lifelines. Every day, I received messages, calls, and video calls from Alfred.

Good morning, my forever.

How was your lecture?

Remember to eat and rest, love.

Even across the distance, his presence was constant. His loyalty shone through every word, every call. He ignored any advances from other girls, never letting temptation even brush against him.

And I? I held tightly to our vows, never letting a single thought drift toward another. The blood covenant we had renewed the night before I left became more than a symbol — it was our shield, our promise that distance could not break.

Some nights, our calls lasted hours. We talked about lectures, dreams, movies we wanted to watch together, and everything in between.

"Splendour," he whispered one night through the screen, "even if we're miles apart, I feel you here, in my heart. I don't care what happens — I will always be yours."

"I feel the same," I replied, tears glimmering in my eyes. "No matter what, I'm yours. Forever."

We shared little joys too — celebrating birthdays over video calls, sending surprise gifts, and teasing each other about homework, friends, and university life.

Despite the distance, our love grew stronger, deeper, unshakable. Every day apart reminded us why we had promised each other forever. Every time the phone buzzed with a message from him, my heart leapt. Every time I called, his smile, even through a screen, made everything feel safe and right.

We were in new places, facing new challenges, but the fire between us burned brighter than ever.

No distractions, no temptations, no doubts just Alfred and I, holding tightly to our vows, proving that true love could endure anything.
