Chapter 89 - The Meaning of the Mission

Tang San, of course, noticed everyone discussing the amount of the mission, but after all, this mission had been assigned by his teacher.

As the teacher's personal disciple, Tang San did not want to easily question his teacher. Therefore, he decided it was better to remain silent for the moment. Besides, he always felt that things might not be as simple as they seemed.

After Ma Hongjun finished speaking, Oscar clearly sensed that everyone seemed somewhat inclined to agree. Although he himself did indeed want to act on it, Oscar temporarily stopped everyone from putting this idea into action.

"Don't rush. We've only just finished the first lap. We're still far from truly reaching the limits of our bodies.

It's fine to complain that the teacher's mission is unreasonable, but if we want our complaints to be accepted, we must have reason and evidence.

If we are to complain that the training mission is impossible to complete, we must first prove it with the limits of our own bodies."

Oscar's words successfully calmed the previously overly excited boys and girls. Dai Mubai once again took the lead at the front of the team, ready to lead everyone onward.

"Hey, wait a moment," Oscar stopped everyone again. All eyes were on him, curious to see what he intended to do next.

Ignoring the gaze on him, Oscar casually removed the weighted belt that had originally belonged to Ning Rongrong, and also removed the one from Oscar himself.

He then threw Ning Rongrong's belt to Oscar, and Oscar's belt to Tang San.

"小三 (Xiao San), since your teacher assigned such a harsh mission, you'll just have to endure it a little more and take care of us two injured ones," Oscar said, a sly smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

"Exactly, Xiao San, you really have to take care of us," chimed in the little chubby boy, clearly enjoying the scene. He draped his plump arm over Tang San's shoulder, as if expecting Tang San to share his weight.

Although Tang San felt a bit helpless at the teasing, in his heart he quietly sighed in relief. Finally, everyone was beginning to gradually accept him.

With a playful flick to shake off the little chubby boy's arm, Tang San, in a tsundere style, shook his head and ran straight forward.

Ma Hongjun, who had been brushed off, was not offended, because Tang San obediently followed Oscar's instructions and strapped Oscar's weighted belt onto himself.

The perspective shifts back to the same room as before. All the teachers had gathered there, and the main difference now was that the spirit-seeing display screen had been turned on. The teachers' eyes were focused on the screen.

Looking closely at the display, it was clear that it showed Oscar and the others continuing to run laps.

Obviously, the entire track and everything happening on it was being monitored by the teachers.

"Xiao Gang, to be honest, I also think the mission you assigned is a bit too heavy. I mentioned this to you at the start, and you told me not to worry because you had your own reasons, but you didn't explain what your reasons were.

Now the kids have discovered the issue and started questioning it. Don't you think you should explain to me?"

Frand asked the Master, who still had his eyes fixed on the display, looking serious.

Hearing Frand's question, the Master finally took his gaze off the screen and turned to look at the other teachers in the room. Their eyes were as probing as Frand's—not aggressive, but full of firm resolve.

The Master knew that if he could not provide a satisfactory explanation, these teachers would surely stop the training, and the mission being carried out by the children on the screen would no longer be under his supervision.

"I did not intend for them to have to complete this current training mission. In fact, the standard I set for them was only five laps. I am fully aware that ten laps is beyond their current ability.

The reason I assigned the mission this way is to teach them a principle: goals are meant to be pursued.

All of you teachers should know that not every goal can be easily achieved. Sometimes, even if you exert all your strength, you cannot reach the expected goal.

Therefore, for this training mission, I do not care whether they can complete it. What I care about is their attitude toward completing the mission.

The attitude I value is that no matter how difficult or easy a task is, once a goal is set, one must give their all to achieve it. This attitude is the mindset a strong person should possess.

To be honest, if they had come back to see me earlier, I would have changed the mission.

However, in future training, I will adjust my expectations slightly, because although they are talented and intelligent, their mindset is not yet enough to support them reaching the topmost tier.

Fortunately, their choice has still pleased me.

Although they did not show the courage I most wanted to see—charging headlong toward danger despite knowing the risk—they did demonstrate the value of backing up their claims with actions, which is also commendable.

I also realize that my original evaluation of Oscar's mindset might have been off. His intelligence and steadiness surpass my expectations."

The perspective shifts back to the eight students laboriously overcoming the mountain obstacles.

Oscar, still at the rear, was slightly distracted. His sixth sense told him that this mission likely contained a deeper meaning beneath its surface.

Oscar, unlike Tang San, did not know the Master well, but he had memories of him in his mind. From those memories, the Master seemed to be a very cautious educator.

Would a truly careful teacher assign a task beyond the students' limits simply because they did not understand the spirit device well, as Dai Mubai suggested?

Because of this doubt, Oscar temporarily stopped everyone from running back to argue with the Master. He wanted to see what the Master was truly up to.

The second lap was much easier than the first, as the students had already familiarized themselves with the hazards in the corridor.

The mishap that had occurred during the first lap—where Oscar in the middle of the group was suddenly flung into the air despite everyone in front being fine—had already been explained by Tang San.

The metal bridge had a pressure-sensing mechanism. When enough weight was applied, a portion of the bridge would randomly spring up, launching anyone on it into the air to "receive the iron fist's lesson."

This time, however, the unlucky target was Tang San.

As Tang San was flung into the air, the others standing on the bridge had the fortune of witnessing a scene reminiscent of a martial arts film.

With the aid of Ghost Shadow Tracing and Purple Extreme Demon Eyes, Tang San treated the otherwise troublesome metal fists as footholds to adjust his trajectory, ultimately returning safely to the bridge, earning widespread admiration.

Through the mental link between Oscar and Oscar, it was clear that Oscar appreciated Tang San's consideration, knowing he guided them through the last fifty meters of the bridge rather than simply crossing himself.

Oscar sensed in his brother's mind a strong mix of admiration and envy, enough to equate to five combined lemons' worth of sourness.
