Chapter 88 - An Impossible-to-Complete Mission

"That really scared me. I thought the Master was dissatisfied with our speed and performance just now and was going to add a few more laps."This was said by the chubby little fellow, Ma Hongjun, whose mouth was always faster than his brain.

"Please don't add any more. I already have severe psychological trauma toward that pitch-black tunnel."This was said by Ning Rongrong, who had suffered quite a lot in the mechanism corridor.

Because of her physical condition, this young miss had truly endured plenty of hardship in the mechanism corridor. There wasn't a single mechanism soul tool inside that she could dodge or resolve relying solely on her own ability.

Although on the surface it looked like Ning Rongrong had taken fewer punches—and less severe ones—than Oscar and the Osqin brothers, the psychological pressure she endured was absolutely the greatest among everyone present, and she was also the one who harbored the strongest resistance toward that mechanism corridor.

Without exaggeration, Ning Rongrong's journey through the mechanism corridor had been one where Dai Mubai dragged her along the entire way. Every punch that Ning Rongrong didn't take landed squarely on Dai Mubai instead.

This was also the direct reason why the current running formation was slightly different from the first lap. Dai Mubai, who should have been running at the very front, had now fallen to the very back, running side by side with Oscar and Osqin.

Regardless of whether the trainees at the front were complaining about the obstacle course itself or criticizing the Master's lack of compassion, the three people at the back of the group ran silently the entire time, with no intention of joining the conversation.

This was actually very uncharacteristic of Oscar and Osqin. Subjectively speaking, they very much wanted to happily complain along with everyone else, but objectively speaking, the reality of their injuries forced them to keep their mouths shut and focus on running.

Osqin appeared to have taken only a single punch, but in reality, when that punch landed, he hadn't made any defensive movements at all.

Without using the Flame Armor Shield, Osqin's physical condition, while stronger than that of an ordinary auxiliary-type soul master, was still nowhere near comparable to that of soul masters with beast-type martial souls.

That punch had caused extremely severe damage to Osqin, directly causing him to lose control over his body for several seconds at the time.

By now, Osqin estimated that his back was already covered in bruises. Even the simple motion of swinging his arms would tug at the injury on his back, producing pain intense enough to disrupt his breathing rhythm.

As for Oscar, he had taken three solid punches and even been knocked flying once. Although Oscar had executed excellent defensive measures each time he was struck,

for a food-type soul master's physique, the damage caused by three metal iron fists was truly not something that could be easily endured.

From Oscar's running posture, Osqin could already tell that his older brother's current physical condition was extremely poor. However, having cut off the mental link, Osqin didn't know that Oscar's actual condition was even worse than he imagined.

With his head lowered and lips pressed tight, Oscar could now feel not only every muscle in his body crying out in pain, but also those muscles beginning to tremble—an unmistakable sign that a person's stamina was nearing its limit.

Finally, there was Dai Mubai. There was no need to say much about him—he had taken well over a dozen punches in the mechanism corridor. From what Osqin could see, there even seemed to be a trace of blood at the corner of Dai Mubai's lips.

"Master… this time, I wasn't frightened by imaginary difficulties.

The mission you've set—given our current condition—would require an enormous price to complete, or may even be completely impossible."

Thinking this, Osqin simply stopped running. Osqin wore a timing soul tool on his wrist (which he would call a watch from now on), so he knew very clearly that the previous lap had taken them a total of sixty-three minutes.

Osqin remembered that in his previous life, the qualified standard for a five-kilometer run for female soldiers was 28 minutes. Yet now, their five kilometers had taken more than double that time.

This simple time comparison clearly illustrated just how difficult the track they were running truly was.

Under such extreme difficulty, they were still expected to run so many laps. In Osqin's view, the kind of mission the Master had designed was fundamentally unreasonable—it was the kind of training that would cripple people.

How many injuries would the trainees accumulate in the mechanism corridor over more than ten laps?

Could such injuries truly recover completely overnight without leaving any hidden dangers?

Even setting those two issues aside for the moment, there was still the problem of time.

When everyone was still full of stamina, a single lap already took over an hour. How long would it take once their stamina was depleted?

Over ten laps would approach twenty hours. No matter how one looked at it, this was not a reasonable arrangement.

Seeing Osqin stop, Oscar and Dai Mubai also sighed and stopped with him. They weren't fools—any problem Osqin could think of, they could think of as well.

"Now I understand why you reacted the way you did at the beginning," Oscar said in a low voice to Osqin.

Osqin shook his head. "I didn't know the mechanism corridor was this difficult at first. If I had known from the beginning, I would have directly questioned the Master instead of just accepting such an unreasonable task."

Dai Mubai's expression was equally grave."The Master has only just arrived at Shrek Academy, and it's obvious that his understanding of soul tools isn't sufficient. This mission arrangement really wasn't thought through.

I know my own physical condition. If the situation inside the mechanism corridor doesn't change, even if I stop getting injured, I can only last three or four more laps at most. Any more than that, and these light injuries on my body will turn into serious ones. At that point, without ten days or half a month of recovery, I won't be able to heal."

"Boss Dai, how about we go back and give the Master some feedback?" Ma Hongjun's voice suddenly came from nearby."The Dean even considers our opinions during teaching. He can't be this authoritarian!"

Osqin looked up and saw that the other trainees—who should have continued forward—were now all standing around them, worry written on their faces.

In fact, the moment Osqin, Oscar, and Dai Mubai stopped, Tang San had already noticed.

Seeing the three of them stop in place and begin talking, Tang San simply led everyone else back as well. The others hadn't heard what Oscar said clearly, but they had heard every word Osqin and Dai Mubai said.

As for why Tang San was the first to notice the three of them stopping, there were actually two reasons.

First, Tang San's observational ability had always been exceptional. He had already noticed that the three of them were in poor physical condition when they exited the mechanism corridor.

Second, now that Tang San knew his previous approach had been wrong and had firmly resolved to integrate himself into the team, he was determined to do his best.

To quickly integrate into a team, the first thing one must do is gain sufficient understanding of the team members.

To achieve this goal, Tang San naturally devoted more attention to observing his teammates' conditions.

Because he didn't know how much longer the three of them could hold on, Tang San chose to constantly monitor them. The moment they showed signs of being unable to continue, he would immediately step in to share their load.

The reason Tang San didn't offer help immediately after noticing their condition wasn't because he wanted his actions to achieve the perfect "timely assistance" effect, but simply because he didn't want Osqin and the others to give up too easily before truly reaching their limits.

Listening to Osqin and the others discuss the problems with the mission the Master had set, Tang San's brows furrowed slightly as he fell into deep thought.
