Chapter 90 - Awakening

Fair is fair—Tang San's performance just now was indeed extremely eye-catching.

"I want to have such cool skills too!" Oscar cried out inwardly.

After exiting the tunnel, Tang San could clearly feel that his companions' gazes were all focused on him, but one of those looks seemed somewhat off.

However, when Tang San tried to locate the source of that gaze, he was unable to determine who it belonged to.

After thinking carefully for a while, Tang San still couldn't figure out what that gaze contained beyond the admiration everyone else shared.

In the end, when Tang San once again returned to the small training field that served as both the endpoint of the previous lap and the starting point of the next one, he chose to give up thinking about the matter.

There were still so many laps left to run—it was better to conserve some energy. The two weight belts strapped to his body, capable of generating 4.5 times gravity, were still a considerable burden for Tang San.

As he came to the table as usual to drink water, Tang San's gaze suddenly sharpened slightly. On the table, in addition to the wooden bucket and cup that had been there before, there were now three sugar beans. Judging by their appearance, they were clearly healing sugar beans.

Also noticing this, Ao Siqin paused slightly, then picked up one of the sugar beans and popped it into his mouth. Feeling the sweetness melt in his mouth and the pain in his back lessen, a thought flashed through Ao Siqin's mind:

"So he's been paying attention to our condition the whole time?

Then it seems my feeling wasn't wrong. Master knows his training intensity exceeds the standard. He arranged things this way because he has other purposes. Luckily, I stopped those guys from impulsively going to argue."

Although he didn't know what Master was really planning, since Master still had a sense of proportion, Ao Siqin didn't want to waste too many brain cells thinking about it.

Time passed, the task continued. The only breathing room everyone had was the short moment to drink water after completing each lap.

Were they tired? Of course they were—but no one stopped moving.

Everyone silently pressed on under their own load. Even though their running speed had dropped again and again, even though every muscle in their bodies was trembling, even though obstacles that had once been easily cleared now required multiple people working together—since they had already said they would persist until their limits, their pride would not allow them to cheat themselves in this regard.

Lunch time had already been missed when the trainees were running their third lap. Now they were completing the seventh lap, and the sky was already showing signs of darkening.

Although Ao Siqin had previously eaten Teacher Shao Xin's healing sugar bean, that single sugar bean was far from enough to fully heal his injuries. As his stamina drained away, Ao Siqin could feel the injury on his back increasingly affecting him.

He raised his head and looked at the other trainees, wanting to find a suitable description for their current state, while also estimating how much longer everyone could hold on.

At this moment, the eight trainees could no longer maintain their original formation.

Tang San was now at the very front, carrying both his own and Dai Mubai's weight belts.

Dai Mubai was basically running side by side with Tang San, but due to his injuries, he had no choice but to remove his original triple-weight belt and hand it to Tang San, instead taking Zhu Zhuqing's weight belt onto himself.

Ao Siqin and Xiao Wu were still wearing their original weight belts.

Zhu Zhuqing was carrying Ning Rongrong's weight belt and was also supporting Ning Rongrong, helping her share her body weight.

Ma Hongjun was now carrying both his own and Oscar's weight belts.

Speaking of this chubby fellow—during the mechanical tunnel, because of his larger footprint, he had taken quite a few punches. However, that layer of fat on his body seemed to be surprisingly effective at reducing physical damage.

Up to now, Ao Siqin hadn't seen any obvious injuries on him. Although Ma Hongjun's face could be described as deathly pale, as if he might collapse unconscious at any moment, at this point, who wasn't already at their limit?

Finally, Oscar—Oscar currently had no extra weight on him at all. His own body weight was the only burden he had to bear. Even so, Ao Siqin could still tell that Oscar was moving with extreme difficulty. No—perhaps "walking" was a more accurate description of everyone's current state.

Among the eight trainees present, every single person's forward movement could only be described as shuffling.

As for why they were still pushing forward, Ao Siqin guessed it was mostly because everyone had an obsession with reaching their own limits. Driven by this obsession, they mechanically moved their legs step by step.

Time: 3 a.m., late at night.Location: the temporary dormitory shared by Ao Siqin and Ma Hongjun.

Inside this temporary dormitory formed from expanded foam metal, the already limited extra space was now completely filled by two large wooden barrels placed side by side.

Suddenly, some movement came from the wooden barrel on the right side of the door. Immediately after, Ao Siqin's head—still bearing a clearly dazed expression—rose from the edge of the barrel.

After being stunned for a short while, Ao Siqin's brain finally began to function properly, and his memories gradually became clear.

"Did we finish the seventh lap?" a murmured question escaped Ao Siqin's lips.

Ao Siqin clearly remembered that he lost consciousness only after returning to the small training field and officially finishing the seventh lap. Before he fainted, three others had already passed out: Ma Hongjun, Oscar, and Ning Rongrong.

The first to collapse was Oscar. At the time, Oscar and Ao Siqin were walking one after the other on the narrow bridge in the mechanical tunnel. Because Ao Siqin had kept his mind-link ability active with Oscar, he grabbed Oscar the instant Oscar fainted, preventing him from falling into the sticky, soap-like liquid below the bridge.

Come to think of it, he didn't know when it started, but the metal giant fists in the mechanical tunnel had stopped making their whistling sounds. Only the occasional high-pressure water jets reminded everyone that this place was different from the previous mountainous obstacle course. It was precisely because this greatest threat was gone that Ao Siqin was barely able, in that physical state, to carry Oscar out.

The second to faint was Ma Hongjun. This chubby fellow wasn't as lucky as Oscar—he directly toppled off the bridge. Fortunately, the safety vine around his waist caught him, and only with Dai Mubai and Tang San working together were they able to pull him back up.

The third to faint was Ning Rongrong. She chose a comparatively good place to collapse. Although she was still inside the dim tunnel, at least she had already left the metal narrow bridge and reached flat ground when she suddenly went limp against Zhu Zhuqing.

Out of humanitarian companionship, even though everyone was already extremely exhausted, they still decided to carry these halfway quitters back to the small training field. After Ao Siqin helped Oscar lie down on the ground, Ao Siqin himself tried to stand up—but the moment he did, he collapsed straight onto the ground and lost consciousness.

"Luckily my face wasn't ruined," Ao Siqin thought as he touched his face.

After finishing recalling the events, Ao Siqin noticed a note placed on the rack beside the wooden barrel. On it were written the words: "After waking up, go eat at the cafeteria yourself."

Looking at the liquid around his body that was still emitting a medicinal aroma, Ao Siqin finally stood up from the barrel. After lightly rotating his neck, he easily saw the chubby fellow still sleeping in the other large wooden barrel.

"Hmm, that much exhaustion?" Ao Siqin muttered, showing some concern for his temporary roommate as he climbed out of the barrel.

After first finding a change of clothes in the dormitory wardrobe, Ao Siqin then carried them into the bathroom, rinsing off the remaining medicinal liquid from his body with clean water slightly cooler than his body temperature.
