Ruby's POV
My fingers trembled as I gripped the phone, palms slick with perspiration.
"That cannot be real," I whispered automatically. "He might be furious that I fled from him, but harming my family crosses every line. He would never sink that low. That is not the man I know."
"You are still making excuses for him?" Cloe's voice cracked with incredulity. "Days ago, armed men stormed into the care facility and forcibly removed your grandmother. Right in front of all the other residents and staff members! That sweet elderly woman had absolutely no understanding of what was happening. She kept calling out your name as they wheeled her stretcher away."
My hand flew to cover my mouth. Hot tears began cascading down my face.
Dear God. Grandma.
