Ruby's POV
What? Justin?
"How is he doing?" I pressed, my voice tight with worry.
"Mr. Muller is unharmed," she replied quietly. "Though he's been anxious about your wellbeing. He asked me to check on you." She retrieved a small communication device from her pocket. "He needs to speak with you directly."
My hands trembled as I placed it in my ear, barely able to breathe. "Justin? Is that you?"
"Ruby!" The sound of his voice nearly broke me. "Tell me you're safe. That monster didn't harm you, did he?"
"I'm fine... but Grandma and Cloe..." My voice cracked. "Are you still at Cameron Stone Pack?"
A bitter laugh escaped him. "Elias released me. After making sure to contact my Alpha first. Now my own pack treats me like a wanted criminal. I can't even return home."
The weight of responsibility crushed down on me. "This is my fault, Justin. I should never have involved you in this mess."
