Maya's POV
"Catherine poisoned Chen." I stare at James's journal. "Our lawyer. Our friend. She's been working against us this whole time."
Ethan calls Catherine immediately. "We need to talk. Now."
"I'm in court," Catherine says. "Can it wait?"
"No. It can't. Meet us at your office in one hour. If you're not there, we're going to the police."
"The police? What's this about?"
"You'll find out."
We hang up. Derek reads more journal entries. Each one worse than the last.
"Catherine helped James frame people. Planted evidence. Bribed judges. She was his main accomplice for twenty years. How did we not know?"
"Because she's good at lying," I say bitterly. "She's been lying to us since the beginning."
At Catherine's office, she's waiting. Calm. Professional. Until she sees the journal.
"Where did you get that?" Her voice shakes.
"Siri left it for us. Before she disappeared. Funny how she vanished right when we were about to learn the truth."
