Chapter 17 - The Taste of the Two-Headed Wolf

The Corpse Domain instantly expanded, enveloping the Two-Headed Wolf. A powerful, crushing aura permeated the space.

The giant wolf's body immediately stiffened, feeling as if it had been plunged into the deep ocean. The immense pressure caused its limbs to soften, and it sank to its knees with a loud THUD.

"WHIMPER~~"

It let out a whimper like a beaten dog. Its eyes were no longer savage but filled with terror.

It seemed that a single glance from Ethan had forced the giant wolf to the ground. The scene was utterly shocking.

It was clear the Corpse Domain also exerted tremendous suppression over Mutated Beasts.

"What..."

The few survivors were dumbfounded. They never expected this outcome. The man before them was too powerful.

Ethan, however, was currently pondering a different question: Since the wolf had two heads, did that mean it had Two Brain Pellets or just one?

To verify his answer, Ethan stepped forward and used his Dagger to carve open one of the wolf's skulls. He discovered that each head indeed contained its own Brain Pellet.

Unfortunately, the Brain Pellets were quite small, smaller than those found in the Evolved Humans.

If the Evolved Human's Brain Pellet was like a Cherry, the Two-Headed Wolf's was a 'Small Cherry.'

Ethan swallowed both Brain Pellets.

The taste was still agreeable, and the pure energy was completely absorbed, slightly strengthening his Vital Essence.

Next, he picked up the Dagger and licked the blood off the blade.

He found that the Two-Headed Wolf's blood tasted good, and the energy it contained far exceeded that of Beef or Chicken Blood.

"Not bad..."

Ethan was satisfied. With a sweep of his hand, he stored the wolf's body in his Inventory, planning to Devour it back home.

He ignored the few living people behind him.

Killing them held little meaning. They were like livestock in a Breeding Farm—he could leave them to perpetuate the bloodline, or wait until they became Evolved Humans before killing them.

Ethan's body then passed through the wall. He vanished like a specter.

The survivors were left speechless, stunned that the terrifying giant wolf had been killed so easily.

"What... what kind of monster is he?"

Ethan arrived back at his apartment.

Sophia had already finished her daily chores.

"Boss, your clothes are all washed. You can change whenever you like."

"Alright, take a break," Ethan said.

Sophia, however, rubbed the back of her neck and shook her head.

"Boss, my head feels so itchy. Do you think I'm about to awaken?"

"Oh?"

Ethan glanced at her, observing for a moment before replying.

"Go wash your hair."

"..." Sophia was speechless, her aspirations shattered. She turned and left the room.

Ethan took a hot bath and changed into his fresh clothes.

He then put on a clean, white scarf.

He sat at the dining table, picked up a knife and fork, sliced a piece of the freshly hunted wolf meat, and began to eat.

The wolf meat tasted good and was quite chewy, like eating Jerky.

The television in front of him was still receiving survivor signals.

'Monster alert! Not only have animals mutated, but some have merged with the infected! I just filmed this with a Drone—watch now!'

Ethan chewed his meat, looking up at the screen.

It showed a giant Python, as thick as an Oil Drum. Most disturbingly, the python had a Zombie's head!

It was coiled around a building, looking absolutely terrifying.

This was due to the python consuming too many zombies, causing fusion.

Furthermore, several Official Shelters were reporting news of Fusion Monsters.

There were human-faced spiders the size of a Sedan, covered in thick hair, spitting silk tougher than steel rebar.

There were also rats the size of a Sow with human heads sprouting all over their backs—a dense, horrifying cluster of faces, still screaming in agony.

"Quite Appetizing..." Ethan murmured to himself.

The outside world was clearly still fraught with danger, filled with mutated monsters where escape and slaughter were constant, and losing one's life was a moment's inattention away.

Human survivors had to beware not just monsters, but their own kind. They shed all pretense of goodness, killing each other over food or women.

Yet, this bloodshed and violence had little to do with Ethan.

He remained safe in his clean home, attended to by a Maid. His life was entirely peaceful.

The inside of the tower was a world away from the streets outside.

Moreover, he had three Minions guarding the exterior, and their subordinates totaled Over a Thousand.

Neither Evolved Humans nor Mutated Beasts dared to cause trouble here easily.

In this fashion, Ethan settled in for another ten days or so.

During this time, he consumed a massive amount of flesh and blood—well Over a Hundred Tons! The consumption couldn't stop...

Ethan's strength advanced by leaps and bounds.

When his Corpse Domain unfolded now, its range doubled to Sixty Feet, and it became both stronger and more sustained.

However, in the last few days, Ethan noticed Helicopters frequently flying overhead outside his window. Human activity had increased significantly.

According to the intelligence he gathered, this was due to the growing number of Evolved Humans who were now launching rescue operations across the city.

Currently, the Port City Official Shelter population had grown to Fifty Thousand, with Seven Thousand being Evolved Humans.

They had even published a list of the top one hundred Evolved Humans, ID 001 to ID 100, ranked from strongest to weakest.

ID 001 was the strongest; ID 100 the weakest.

This ranking, of course, was based purely on data analysis and not combat experience.

Additionally, they posted daily updates on their outgoing rescue teams to prevent survivors from being deceived by malicious individuals.

That day, Ethan was watching television.

Most internet services were down, leaving few channels. Only signals transmitted from the shelter's Radar could be picked up.

'Today's Rescue Team Update: We have dispatched rescue personnel, Lois Cheng and Scott Sun, two Evolved Humans, who are scheduled to land at University Town. Survivors in the area, please await rescue.'

"Hmm?"

Ethan hadn't paid much attention, but hearing those two names, he set down his wine glass and looked closely.

The television displayed photographs of two people.

The first was a girl with Bangs, long black straight hair, and strikingly pale skin. Her large, round eyes were dark, but lacked any luster, appearing unusually vacant and emotionless.

Yet, the girl's beauty was top-tier. Coupled with her expressionless face, she looked beautifully unreal, almost like a Mannequin...

The second was a man with dark skin, sunken cheeks, and Naturally Curly hair. Most notable were his eyes: one looked straight ahead, while the other was crossed, giving him an appearance of profound 'Wisdom.'

The man's photo, placed next to the girl's, showed a massive disparity in looks, a gulf between cloud and mud.

But Ethan knew both of them.

His gaze involuntarily drifted to a photo hanging on the wall—an old picture taken at the Orphanage that contained almost all his childhood memories.

And both of those individuals were in that picture.

Ethan remembered Lois Cheng most vividly. They often played together as children, but later, the head of the Orphanage said Lois Cheng had a Mental Illness and sent her to an Asylum. He never saw her again after that...

Ethan also vaguely remembered Scott Sun.

He recalled that Scott Sun had a Congenital Defect and was Mentally Disabled. Since childhood, his eyes were described as one 'Keeping Watch' and the other 'Standing Guard.' He was later abandoned by his parents.

Ethan remembered a classic incident: when Scott Sun was twelve, he kept a Hamster. When the hamster fell ill, Scott Sun fed it Rat Poison...

The photos on the television had violently stirred Ethan's long-dormant memories.

Childhood playmates, not seen for ten years.

It was unexpected.

That the two of them had joined forces to form a rescue team...

"Can a Psychiatric Patient and a Mentally Disabled person actually save anyone???"
