Chapter 22 - Nighttime Assassination

"Keep going?"

Ethan's lips curled slightly. He thought it was an excellent idea to continue hunting human Evolved Humans to acquire Crystal Cores and replenish his energy.

He hadn't had enough 'Cherries' yet...

Furthermore, Ethan preferred to Lurk in his sanctuary and disliked being disturbed. The best way to ensure people stopped looking for him was to go out and kill all of them!

So, Ethan issued an order to Little Eight, instructing her to scout for signs of human Evolved Humans.

Since Little Eight was fast enough, she was a suitable Swift Scout.

"HEE HEE HEE HEE HEE~~"

Little Eight let out a creepy laugh, swiftly left the lair, and vanished around a distant street corner.

Night fell.

Darkness enveloped the land. Since Port City's power grid was down, the streetlights were out, and the city was pitch black.

In the inky darkness, the fierce roars of zombies and the growls of mutated creatures could often be heard—a continuous, bloody slaughter was taking place.

Ethan stood by his window, gazing out.

A zombie's night vision was extremely sharp. Even on the Twentieth Floor, the detailed street view below was fully visible.

At that moment, a spectral figure rushed into the tower.

It was Little Eight, returned.

"My King... I found a group of humans. They are hiding in the Dafa Supermarket, guarding a Warehouse. There are over a dozen Evolved Humans among them, wearing the same uniforms as the ones from today," Little Eight reported.

With her current intelligence, which was equivalent to a Ten-Year-Old Child, she could clearly articulate anything that wasn't too complex.

Over a dozen Evolved Humans... wearing the same uniforms...

Ethan knew without a second thought that they belonged to Tech Corp, as no other faction in the apocalypse had standardized uniforms.

They were guarding a supermarket Warehouse, likely having found a large cache of supplies and trying to figure out how to transport them back.

In this apocalypse, Logistics was a huge problem, as not everyone had an Inventory space.

"Let's go take a look," Ethan said simply.

Little Eight immediately became excited, her lips stretching to her ears in a huge, eerie smile...

Night was the best time for zombie hunting.

But this time was different.

None of the zombies made a sound. They followed silently behind Ethan, moving toward the target location.

The zombie army moved like ghosts integrating into the darkness.

Inside the Dafa Supermarket, there were over Two Hundred humans. More than a hundred of them were ordinary survivors; the rest were Tech Corp employees.

There were TwelveEvolved Humans among them.

The large Warehouse held supplies worth Hundreds of Millions, enough to feed Tens of Thousands of people. Clearly, this mission was crucial, and they could not afford any mistakes.

"With this much stuff, when the hell are we going to haul it all back? With just two hundred of us, we'll be exhausted just moving the boxes," complained a young man on night watch.

The person next to him took a drag from a cigarette, exhaling smoke.

"Who cares? We'll wait for the company to send people. We have food, drink, smokes, and booze here. We just have to guard it."

"The main thing is... not being able to go back to the company. I just feel unsafe being outside." The young man felt uneasy.

The other man laughed.

"No way, you're not worried about zombies getting in, are you? We have Twelve Evolved Humans here. Zombies would be committing suicide to walk in."

"Achoo! I hope so..."

The young man yawned. It was late, and he was getting sleepy. "Nan-ge, give me a cigarette to perk up."

What they didn't know was that the supermarket's perimeter was already surrounded by Over a Thousand zombies. They stood silently, like wooden posts, their eyes growing increasingly fierce, like devils in the darkness!

The moment Ethan gave the order, they would charge recklessly and fearlessly!

"So many Evolved Humans..."

Ethan sensed the human presence inside and realized that a frontal assault might not be the best idea.

He himself wouldn't have an issue. The problem was that his Minions would suffer heavy losses.

The ones he brought out today were all elite zombies who could understand and obey commands...

So, Ethan decided to strike first this time.

He would find a way to assassinate a few Evolved Humans before launching the general attack.

He instructed his Minions to hold their position and walked forward alone. As he moved, his figure merged into the darkness, slowly disappearing from view...

Ethan used his Corpse Domain ability to pass directly through the wall and enter the supermarket.

He was completely silent, like a ghost.

"I need to be careful, too..."

Ethan observed his surroundings. After all, there were Twelve Evolved Humans here, and his full Corpse Domain could only last for Five Minutes.

If he got stuck in a War of Attrition, it could be troublesome.

Ethan tracked the human scent and slowly advanced. Despite being surrounded by darkness, the surrounding scene was perfectly clear to him.

The first floor of the supermarket was dedicated to Gold and Silver Jewelry, Diamonds, and other such items.

In the apocalypse, these things were useless. They were left on display, untouched by anyone.

Ethan continued walking, reaching the ground floor lobby.

The sounds of human breathing were clearer here; there was even faint snoring.

Ethan glanced over and saw dozens of people sleeping on makeshift beds. Most were asleep.

However, some were awake, playing with their phones. The faint glow of a screen illuminated a Bald face.

His hair was gone, and he was still staying up late?

Large supermarkets like this usually had a Generator, so it was normal to be able to use a phone...

Ethan didn't disturb them, as they were just ordinary survivors.

His target was already locked onto a single room not far away.

He sensed the presence of three people there: one Evolved Human and two women.

Ethan walked over silently.

Using his Corpse Domain ability, he passed straight through the wall.

The room had originally been a store display but had been furnished with a bed and converted into a bedroom. A Lustful Scent permeated the air.

On the bed were a young man and two women, all Nude.

It was clear what had transpired.

In this apocalypse, Evolved Humans naturally became a Hot Commodity, with countless women throwing themselves at them.

Moreover, facing ferocious monsters every day caused immense psychological stress. Unsure of when they might die, they cared less about Chastity and were more willing to indulge.

Ethan drew a Dagger and plunged it straight into the young man's forehead.

To prevent any sound, he used his Corpse Domain ability to pass the Dagger through the skull, scrambling the brain. With a flick, a Brain Pellet flew out.

Clearly, this Evolved Human was lower-tier and had not yet condensed a Crystal Core.

Ethan wasn't picky.

He ate it immediately. It still tasted like a 'Cherry.'

The two women remained deeply asleep, completely unresponsive. They must have been truly exhausted earlier.

"If they wake up later and find themselves sleeping next to a dead man, they must be very afraid..."

Ethan was relatively Merciful. To spare the two women the terror, he withdrew the Dagger and plunged it into each of their hearts.
