Lyra
The pain was so maddening, my mind dragged me down memory lane of how much pain I ensured in the hands of Blood moon pack.
I turned, using my fore limbs to push myself up whilst dragging my hind limbs to hold my weight. I turned my head towards the direction of the limb I felt the pain and I saw a silver arrow, engraved with a language I couldn't read.
I wasn't allowed the liberty to think too far when I heard the snapping of a twig.
"We're not alone." My wolf mirrored the thought in my head.
Turning toward the treeline, I stared intently towards the direction where I thought I heard the sound. My ears perked, waiting to hear something else.
"Fuck!" I cursed as the pain seared even more. I wondered, surprised as to why the wound was yet to heal.
At first, I saw nothing. Then they stepped out, three humans but I could tell they were wolves from their scent. I could see the way their eyes gleamed, with something more than hunger. Malice.
"Well, well, well" one of them growled, his voice low and mocking, "look what we found. A little dreamer wandering too far from home."
I bared my teeth, a rumble vibrating through my chest. Anger surged through my veins as my heart pounded against my chest.
"Cowards!" My wolf hissed, following it with another growl.
Another one, bigger, stepped closer, lips curling. "You think you're all high and mighty just because you were able to defeat those wolves. Even going as far as leading a pack of rogues, a mere woman! Preposterous."
"Does it hurt your pride that there's a woman stronger than you?" I asked through mind link as I was unable to physically speak.
Their heads snapped towards each other, surprised they could hear me.
"What? You're surprised I could mind-link you?"
Normally, wolves can't communicate with each other unless they were bounded as a pack or as mates. But I was not just any wolf.
"Its impossible! Except you're using false wonders." The one who had been silent amongst the three finally spoke.
"I'm not just any wolf, and it's so sad you won't live to tell the tale."
"You foul beast!I'll make sure to end you here tonight." The bigger one screamed, turning into his dark furred wolf.
My anger mixed with confidence as I crouched low, ready. "Come try."
The first lunged, fast, reaching for my throat. I twisted sideways, claws raking his flank as I shoved him off. The second came at me right after, but my wolf surged forward with a snarl, and together we slammed into him, knocking him to the ground. I snapped at his neck, but he rolled away just in time, yelping.
"Stupid bitch!" he barked, but there was fear in his eyes now, fear of the realization that I was stronger than him and I could possibly end him.
The big one didn't hesitate, he charged, aiming to pin me down. I let him come, waiting until the last second, then ducked under his weight. He stumbled past, and I pounced on his back, claws sinking into his fur. His painful howl tore through the night.
The first wolf limped toward me again, but when I turned on him, blood streaking my nuzzle, he faltered.
"She's going to kill us," he snapped at the others, backing away.
"Run, then," I growled, voice rough with rage.
The limper didn't wait for another warning, he bolted into the trees. The second followed, dragging his tail between his legs. The big one, bleeding beneath me, tried to struggle free, eyes burning with humiliation.
"You think this is over, don't you?" He snickered, still holding on to his pride despite his life flashing before his eyes.
"Yes, yes it is."
In one single strike, I dug my claws into his neck and ripped his throat out. His eyes widened with shock and fear until finally life vanished from behind them.
"Bastard."
My chest heaved, adrenaline still razor in my veins. I stood there for a long moment, panting, staring at the shadows where they'd vanished.
"Any idea where they came from?" My wolf asked.
"I don't know, but they clearly thought I was prey."
Her reply came out fierce and proud. "They'll never make that mistake again."
I huffed, finally getting down from the high the adrenaline in my veins put me. I could still feel the hurt in my hind limb, but the pain was not as blinding as before.
Finally I turned around and ran my way home.
"What happened to your leg?" The worry in Marcus' voice was hard to miss as he stared at my bloodied legs.
"I'll be fine." I simply replied, walking towards my room.
"Yeah, if you were going to be fine, that would've healed before you transformed back into your human form." He said, following closely behind me.
I hate to admit it, but he was right. It was alarming that the wound was refusing to heal.
"It'll heal with time." I said, but Marcus wouldn't stop following me and that only served to anger me more.
"Leave, Marcus. I can take care of myself pretty well."
"I'm just trying to look out for you."
"Yeah, and you've done enough. You can leave."
For a while, he stood there, and I knew not because I could see him but because I could still feel his presence. With a sigh quiet and loud enough for me to hear, he turned around and walked out of the room.
I walked into the shower, turning on the hot water as I got under it. The water ran down my body and when it came in contact with my injury, the stinging pain made me wince.
The pain didn't let me stay under the shower for as long as I wanted. I got out and put on another cloth, ready to fall back to bed. But the world suddenly began to tilt.
