Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Darius

I thought rejecting that swine would be the last I know or hear about anything concerning her, but I didn't know it was the beginning of my problems.

"Just so you know…. You killed us." My wolf whined from the condemning place he had decided to hide himself ever since I broke the mate bond.

As usual, I ignored him, flipping through pages of the complaints that were brought to my table.

"Keep ignoring me, it would change the truth. We've become weaker than we ever were and we're losing our hold on the throne. Your people are beginning to doubt your capabilities."

Why did the heavens make it so that we could communicate with our wolves?

The knock on the door distracted me from my thoughts as I watched the door pushed open and Rafe, my beta, walked in.

"Alpha…" he began but I was too eager to cut him short.

"If it's not important, I don't want to hear it."

 "It's important."

I dropped the book in my hand in anger, leaning back in my chair as I folded my arms and held his gaze.

"What's important this time? The wolves complaining I've not shown my face for weeks? Or the elders throwing doubts that I might be on my sick bed while you rule from the shadows? Or Seraphine knowing what she knows how to do best?... Speaking of Seraphine, where is she?"

Each question I asked threatened to take the lid off my anger, but I swallowed it.

 "I don't know where Luna is. She…."

"Dissapeared this morning." I completed for him and his silence was all the confirmation I needed.

 "The council is here."

My eyebrows deepened into a frown at his words as I tried to make sense of what he was saying.

 "Why? I don't remember calling a meeting."

"No, they're the one calling the meeting. And they're waiting in the throne room."

My eyes darkened, laced with every anger I had been trying to keep a tight lid on.

"Again, consequences for being a weak ass alpha king." My wolf was at it again, and this time I couldn't ignore him.

 "Shut up!"

"Alpha?" Rafe asked in confusion and I realised I might've said what I said out loud.

 Fuck!

 "What should I do?"

"Let them wait." I replied in a clipped tone, staring into her wall like it had become something interesting.

"But, the council of elders are filled with ancients wolves, ones that have lived a very long time, probably longer than we have lived, Alpha." His words of protests or reasoning only seemed to annoy me even further.

"Did you just question my orders?"

The room had changed and my eyes were glowing, my fangs were extending and my claws were threatening to come out. Rafe quickly foresaw the consequences and immediately bowed his head in submission.

 "No, alpha."

I sat back, trying not to huff in exhaustion. Ringing off my aura exhausted me now, something I used to do without batting an eye.

Without hesitation, he walked out of the room and I was left alone to my thoughts. For weeks, I've heard speculations about the council of elders beginning to doubt my reign.

As much as they were wolves older than I was, I still had the authority as alpha king and they had to respect me regardless of if they were the ones that put me on the throne or not.

"I thought you held a council meeting."

Seraphine's voice seemed to holy me back to reality as I raised my eyes to meet hers. I didn't hear when she came in.

"Where have you been?" I asked the first question that popped into my head.

"Since you've decided to hide in here, I decided to do a few of your duties for you. Am I not a loving mate?"

"And that's who you chose as your mate? Humans make the most stupid decisions." My wolf jested, but I ignored him in my head.

She catwalked towards me, taking careful steps, a smile curving her lips. When she got to where I sat, she leaned against me, trailing her fingers along the lines of my jaw.

 "The people want you, Darius."

Her scarlet orbs stared into my green ones, and I held her gaze. She leaned forward, wanting to take my lips into hers, but I was quick to avoid her, so they landed on my cheeks.

"Why do you keep doing that?" She asked through gritted teeth, the smile on her face quickly replaced by frustration.

 "Do what?"

"Avoid me like I'm a plague."

"If I avoided you in the way you say, you won't be standing next to me."

"But you've been avoiding sex with me."

I let out a low breath as I ran my hands through my hair.

"What's going on is far more than having the urge to fuck someone. There's a lot to handle, and sex is not a part of it." I explained in a very calm voice, but my tone held intensity.

"Or you've been thinking about her!"

Her voice hit a high note and I knew I could not be close to her any longer. Pushing my chair backwards, I stood on my feet.

"Like you said, I have a meeting to attend."

Without another word, I turned around and began to walk out the door.

"I've always known I was right. You love that lowly trash omega. I wonder what your people would think if they learned their alpha was simping over someone they all walked all over!" she let out in frustration, but I ignored her.

She was the least of my problems.

The frown on my face thickened as I approached the heavy doors that hid the throne room. I wasn't prepared for what they were going to say, but what I knew I was prep

ared for was to debunk any doubt against my ruling.

With a single push, I walked into the throne room, snapping every head in the room towards my direction.
