Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 – Letters to the Future

The weekend stretched lazily over Lili's small bedroom, sunlight spilling through the blinds. She had her laptop open, a notebook beside her, and a mug of lukewarm tea she hadn't touched in half an hour. Her thoughts weren't on her upcoming exams, or even her biology notes. They were on him.

Dewdrop: What are you doing?

Lili: Nothing important. Just… thinking.

Dewdrop: About me?

She smiled faintly, typing slowly.

Lili: Maybe a little.

Dewdrop: Good. Because I was just thinking about… the future.

Lili: The future? Already?

Dewdrop: It's never too early. I mean, we've promised each other a lot already, right?

Her heart warmed. Their promises weren't just words — they were threads weaving their two worlds together.

Lili: Yeah. We have.

Dewdrop: So… what if we wrote them down? Letters to the future. Things we want to keep for ourselves, to read when life feels heavy.

She considered it. Her pen hovered over her notebook. "I like that idea."

Dewdrop: I'll go first.

On the screen, he held up a notebook with messy handwriting. She could see the words but also the care he'd taken, the pauses between each line.

Dewdrop (reading):I promise to wait. To believe. To fight for you, even when I doubt myself. I promise to make you laugh, even on days you feel like crying. I promise to keep my heart open, no matter how far apart we are.

Her chest tightened. The words felt like a hug she could almost touch.

Lili: Dewdrop…

Dewdrop: Your turn.

She picked up her pen and started writing. Softly, almost as if whispering to the paper:

I promise to trust us, even when it's scary. I promise to fight for what we have, to keep believing in love, and to never forget what makes us… us. I promise to laugh, even when things are hard, and to carry you in my heart every day.

She looked up at him through the screen. "Done."

He smiled, eyes glinting. "Beautiful. You really put my words to shame."

"No," she said softly. "They're yours too. We're writing them together."

They spent the next hour swapping lines, reading them aloud, laughing at the silly ones and pausing at the serious ones. Every promise became a tether, invisible but unbreakable, tying them closer despite oceans between them.

Dewdrop: I want us to keep these. No matter what.

Lili: I will. I'll even write more when I think of new ones.

Dewdrop: And I'll keep mine. Forever.

She felt a quiet swell of hope. Even in the uncertainty — exams, distance, parents, time zones — they were building something that could last. Something real.

Lili: You know what? One day… we'll read these in the same room.

Dewdrop: Yeah. And maybe laugh at how dramatic we sounded.

She laughed, a soft, airy sound. "I hope that day comes soon."

Dewdrop: It will. I promise.

As the sun dipped low, their screens glowed warmly, a bridge across the world. And in that glow, Lili felt it: love was more than words, more than promises. It was hope, it was laughter, it was fighting for someone even when the odds were stacked.

And above everything else, it was them, writing letters to the future, and believing in the world they would build together.
