Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 – Little Moments

It was late afternoon for Dewdrop, early evening for Lili. She had been buried in her textbooks for hours, preparing for her upcoming exams. Her phone buzzed gently — Dewdrop's name lighting up the screen.

Dewdrop: Hey… haven't seen you all day.

Lili: Sorry… got caught up with studying and volleyball.

Dewdrop: That's okay. I figured. You being busy makes me happy — even if I miss you a little.

Lili: You miss me?

Dewdrop: A little. But not as much as I'm proud of you.

She smiled, heart warming. That's what she loved most about him — his patience, his understanding. Even when life got in the way, he never complained.

Lili: You're too good to me.

Dewdrop: Only because you deserve it.

They started a video call. Lili propped her phone beside her laptop, hair tied back, face flushed from a long volleyball practice. Dewdrop appeared on the screen, grinning lazily from his balcony.

Dewdrop: You look tired.

Lili: Yeah… but happy tired.

Dewdrop: That's good. That's all I care about.

She laughed softly. "Even if I give you less time than usual?"

Dewdrop: Even then. Your happiness comes first. Always.

She felt a warm surge of gratitude. "You're amazing, you know that?"

Dewdrop: Only for you.

For the next half-hour, they talked quietly — sharing small things from their day, teasing lightly, laughing at silly things like hair ties that could be thrown through screens, or Dewdrop's failed attempts at drawing. Lili felt lighter, calmer, despite the exhaustion from school and volleyball.

Lili: I wish this moment could last forever.

Dewdrop: Me too. But even short moments are enough, if they're with you.

She smiled, pressing a hand lightly against her cheek. "Promise me something?"

Dewdrop: Anything.

Lili: Promise that no matter how busy I get, you'll always be okay with me being… me.

Dewdrop: I promise. Always.

They lingered a little longer on the call, just looking at each other, smiling, feeling connected across the distance. And when Lili finally went back to her notes, Dewdrop stayed on the line until she nodded, sleepy and content.

Somewhere across oceans, the world was wide and busy, but for them, time and distance were nothing. As long as she was happy, he was happy too — and that was enough.
