Chapter 37 - Language Barrier

"Hola."

"You're the dumbest creature to ever exist. You know that right?"

"I feel like this is the beginning of a long and beautiful friendship, John."

BB, Dr. John, and Sugar were walking down the streets of the ancient city and found themselves amazed at the architecture and people around them. Before any of us could form a single thought, all these people died. What really tore at Sugar's heart strings was how he looked over to see a woman holding a baby. Don't think about it. What did BB do when he saw anything like this?

"If I had any sense of empathy I would've given you advice."

"Are you saying you're a-"

"Psychopath? Diagnosed."

"What are you two talking about?"

Sugar was beginning to get fed up with BB going into his mind and became vocal about it to the wrong person.

"This old man keeps reading my mind and yet he won't teach me anything!"

Dr. John gave a soft smile before he went back to walking through the city.

"Well, if you two are done with your MK Ultra experiments, can I just ask you where exactly we're supposed to find this poem?"

When it came to tracking, nobody in the group was quite like Dr. John. He was far easier to compare to a creature of the night than an actual doctor.

"Expect it somewhere near where Alexander died."

"And that is?"

"The palace."

"See, he died in a palace that wasn't his. I don't remember his name, but this place was supposed to be the capital of Alexander's empire. After he started to feel sick, he began to take refuge in a local palace and nine days after his death, he hadn't begun to rot."

Dr. John was shocked at the statement, but he still had in mind that the old fox had used propaganda to stay in power and to keep the human population up enough to go from generation to generation but also not enough to make species endangered. If a species was getting too endangered, then they would become a holy beast protected from above.

"Hopefully you're right. If not, we're going to be in a world of trouble."

"I guess so."

BB was smiling as he bounced down the streets almost more athletically than he ever did as a young man. Sure, he got some off looks but other than that, he didn't care. He was in a bipolar state similar to his father. See, he underwent hypnotherapy as a form of anti-panic. It would allow him to feel happy during a crisis and everyone thinks better during times of joy.

"Why is he so happy?"

"I don't know."

"What do you mean, 'I don't know?' Don't they teach psychology in medical school?"

Dr. John and Sugar were interested in the captain. He'd done so much and intended for more to come. Both of them imagined him as a

"Don't they teach face reading at the orphanage for geniuses? Also, I skipped that class for other activities."

"Okay, blazer."

"Why did they ever let you in there?"

"Where?"

"The orphanage!"

"Because my parents died?"

It wasn't that hard of an idea to grasp. Sure, it was unorthodox to make genius orphans into his personal agents that worked under him in the cult and infiltrated other parts of the government but at least he didn't do so in a malevolent manor.

"Right. But I need to ask the captain something real quick so hang behind."

"Alright."

Dr. John approached BB and placed a firm hand on his shoulder. These were blue caller hands. Not the kind that you see performing spinal and brain surgeries that the bad doctor did.

"We need to talk."

"You remind me of someone from a long time ago."

"Will you shut up and listen? We've had to deal with you telling us that everything we believed in was false meanwhile you're out here doing miracles. I must ask that you tell us what is and isn't real."

BB responded by turning to his crew member and stared at him with eyes of pure rage. It was rage that hadn't been felt for a long time. They burned holes through the doctor's skull and out the back before he responded as he saw the scene that would befall his crewmate above his head.

"That isn't part of my plan. If you want me to tell you everything that is and isn't real, you're going to have to wait until everything is said and done."

"Okay."

"Don't say okay, say yes."

BB placed a hand on Dr. John's shoulder and it almost broke it but he held firm. He wasn't using any abilities. He'd discovered a few things over the years, like pressure points and how to create one.

"Yes."

"Yes what?"

"Yes sir."

"That's what I thought. Now we'll be getting into the palace tonight."

BB somehow kept his monotone voice for the entirety of the interaction before he realized that he was slowly reverting back to his old self, the Appalachian Butcher.
