Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Awakening

Jayjay's POV

The first thing I felt was warmth.

Not the soft kind — more like heat pressing against my cheeks.

Something bright flickered behind my eyelids.

When I tried to move, my body ached.

Then came the sound — low voices, the faint clatter of dishes, footsteps.

Where am I?

Slowly, I opened my eyes.

The ceiling wasn't familiar — white, high, patterned. The scent in the air was clean and herbal, like medicine mixed with fresh sheets.

Then it all hit me — the fight.

The yelling.

Keifer falling.

Bloods.

I jolted up with a gasp — until someone's hand rested on my shoulder.

"Hey, hey… calm down," said a voice — gentle, steady.

It was Ciel. She smiled at me, her eyes soft.

"You're safe. You're in our house. Doctor already checked you — you just need rest."

I blinked, taking in the room.

Two beds. One beside mine.

And there — lying quietly, arm bandaged, eyes half-open — was Keifer.

He looked tired. Pale. But alive.

Ciel followed my gaze and smiled knowingly.

"He's fine too," she said. "Though he scared us all half to death."

I swallowed hard, my chest tightening.

"I—" my voice cracked. "I didn't hurt anyone, right?"

Ciel shook her head. "No. You did the opposite."

That made me breathe again.

I sat there silently, watching Keifer sleep, his hand hanging slightly over the bed.

My fingers twitched — part of me wanted to hold it, the other part too afraid.

Because every time I remembered the blood… it made my hands shake again.

Keifer's POV

It was the sound of her breathing that woke me up.

Slow, steady. Almost rhythmic.

For a second, I thought I was still dreaming — until I felt the sting in my shoulder.

I opened my eyes and saw her sitting there, half-lost in thought, her hair a little messy, her expression soft and distant.

Jayjay.

"Morning," I said quietly.

She turned fast, almost startled. Then that small, shy smile appeared — the one I always liked seeing.

"You're awake."

"Yeah," I said, my voice dry. "Barely."

I tried to sit up, and she immediately stood to help. Her hands trembled slightly, but she still placed a pillow behind my back.

"You shouldn't move too much," she murmured.

I looked at her carefully. "You okay?"

She hesitated. Then nodded. "I… think so. Ciel said I didn't hurt anyone."

I smiled weakly. "Yeah. You didn't. You were… actually kinda scary though."

She gave a tiny laugh — soft, shaky, but real. "I know."

There was silence after that. Just the faint hum of the air conditioning and the warmth between us.

Then I said quietly, "You remember what happened?"

She frowned, looking down. "Bits and pieces. But… I remember your blood. And then—everything went dark."

I reached out, resting my hand gently on hers. "Hey. It's fine now. You stopped. You're safe."

Her eyes met mine — watery but calm.

"Keifer… your dad—"

"I know," I cut her off softly. "We'll deal with him later. For now… just breathe, okay?"

She nodded slowly, her fingers tightening around mine.

And in that quiet room — just for that moment — it felt like the world had stopped spinning.

Later, Adrian came in with Ciel, carrying food trays.

"Doctor said you two can eat something light," Adrian said, smiling faintly. "Don't worry, it's not hospital food."

"Thank God," I muttered.

Jayjay giggled. The sound filled the room — light, familiar, healing.

Ciel placed a tray on each of our laps. "Eat up. You'll need your energy. Grandpa said he wants to see all of us after breakfast."

I raised an eyebrow. "All of us?"

Adrian nodded, expression serious. "Yeah. He said… it's time you both learn the truth about what's going on."

Jayjay and I exchanged a confused look.

And just like that — the calm after the storm began to fade again.
