Blanche's POV
I couldn't even recall how I'd made it back to my room, or how I'd ended up collapsed on the couch.
I lay curled on my side in the murky room, staring at nothing, my thoughts completely empty.
I had no clue how long I'd been there when Carry finally returned.
"Mom?" Carry's voice drifted through the shadows as she entered the darkened room.
I snapped back to reality and responded distantly, "I'm here."
She followed my voice and settled beside me on the couch.
"Mom, how's Grandma doing these days?" Carry asked out of nowhere.
The mention of Irene made my mood sour instantly.
I figured Carry must've overheard Joanna talking about my mother earlier—that had to be why she was asking.
My response came out icy. "She's fine."
Carry shifted closer, pressing her head against my shoulder. "Mom, I want to visit Grandma."
I wasn't sure what she was getting at, but I wasn't having it.
