"Ahhhh! Damn it! Damn it!"
Before Eugene could comprehend the situation, he screamed in pain.
Gavin's grip was so strong that it felt as though his fingers were being crushed against the pistol by Gavin!
And police officer William.
Just a moment ago, he had been eagerly holding onto his shirt, hoping to get his idol's autograph.
In the next instant, he found his idol's large firearm thrust directly into his mouth...
"Hmm?"
William bit down on the muzzle of the Colt in a bewildered manner, his eyes filled with confusion, a hint of pink turning to darkness.
Gavin, having swiftly subdued the two of them, leaned in to whisper to Madison.
"Old Mac, go search."
"Alright."
Madison nodded grimly, approached Eugene with a cold expression, and yanked the revolver away.
"Ahhh, be gentle! My hand is going to break!"
As Eugene screamed, Madison continued to search his body, discovering a survival dagger hidden inside his left calf.
After removing the scabbard and straps, Madison pulled out the dagger and examined the blade.
"Gavin, this knife looks impressive. What do you think?"
"It truly is. The pattern is quite beautiful."
Gavin replied before delivering a sharp kick to Eugene's lower abdomen. Eugene immediately fell to his knees, clutching his stomach, curling up with his head to the ground and groaning.
Then, Madison took William's police-issued USP and nodded at Gavin.
Seeing this, Gavin withdrew the gun from William's mouth.
Once he could finally speak, William waved his hands anxiously and stumbled backward.
"Are you really the two sports stars I thought you were? Oh my God, you look like two robbers in a bad imitation act!"
"Damn it, my mind is in disarray. I can't possibly be mistaken; I'm a die-hard fan of Gavin! How could I confuse him!"
"So you really are who you say you are, but you also really robbed me. So it seems you robbed the gas station as well. You..."
"Shut up."
Seeing William babbling nonstop, Gavin leveled the gun at his chest.
Feeling the cold steel of the Colt, William swallowed hard and nodded back.
"Okay, I won't say a word!"
"Very good. I'll ask you questions next."
Gavin nodded, kicking the groaning Eugene as he turned to William.
"Is he your cousin?"
"Yes, he is my cousin."
"Where do you live?"
"We both reside in Ennis, less than twenty kilometers from here."
"How many people are in your family?"
"My mother passed away six years ago. I live with my father and my eleven-year-old brother. As for Eugene, he's a loser. He has no home and constantly stays at his sister's place."
"Fuck, William! You're the real bastard here!"
Eugene struggled to lift his head, interrupting William with a curse.
William spat on the ground beside him and continued.
"You're the lazy bastard, Eugene. Your brother-in-law has been dead for two years, and your sister is still raising a two-year-old child. Even under those circumstances, your sister still has to buy you alcohol. Are you worthy of her?"
"Bullshit! I built her fence, mowed her lawn, fixed her plumbing, and patched her roof! Do you think I just lie on the couch waiting for breakfast every day?"
"But if you don't look for a job, let alone earn money, and just stay at home, you're worthless. If you can't even do the work you're supposed to, then you're even more of a burden!"
"Fuck you, William! I'm going to cut out your tongue and shove it up your ass..."
"That's enough!"
Gavin suddenly interrupted their argument and stepped down hard on Eugene.
Eugene's chest heaved violently beneath Gavin's weight, his eyes glaring at William.
Seeing this, Gavin pointed the gun at William's chest and commanded, "Shut up. Let him talk."
After speaking, Gavin turned to Eugene on the ground and asked, "You said in the car that you killed someone?"
"Yeah, he was killed, but it's none of your business. Do you think you're the Batman of Dallas, cowboy?"
Eugene replied with a curse.
Gavin ignored the insult and pressed on. "Tell me where you hit someone and what kind of person it was."
"Fuck, the first person to arrest me is the famous Gavin King. What a joke."
Eugene shook his head in frustration but then replied indignantly, "Just now, I dragged that idiot to Hutchins, but just as we were about to enter, we saw a crew filming a night scene there!"
"What kind of movie are they filming?" Gavin immediately inquired.
After a brief recollection, Eugene cursed again, his fear palpable. "It's a damn zombie movie. Those guys look just like the zombies from The Walking Dead, but their makeup is terrible. There isn't even a hint of blood on them. They must be from some third-rate crew."
"Really? They're gathering outside the town. Is there anything else noticeable nearby, like a crashed plane, a dog running around, or an overturned car?"
Gavin continued to question him, and Eugene responded quickly. "Yes, there is an overturned tanker truck, but it's far away."
"And then what? Did you leave?"
"Bullshit! If I hadn't left, would I have gotten caught? I ran off after I crashed into someone."
"Fortunately, the crew didn't send a car after me, but they must have called the police. I'll wait for them to arrive. Maybe thanks to you, big star, I can make the news a few more times!"
"Stop with the nonsense and continue. Why did you stop by Hutchins?"
"I needed to get that idiot to the hospital in Dallas. The doctor's daughter in Ennistown is his ex-girlfriend, so he insisted on going to the city to get his foot cast. What a hypocritical fool!"
Saying this, Eugene spat at William, who quickly jumped aside.
Seeing that Eugene was still spitting, Gavin cut him off and asked in a low voice, "Setting aside the fact that you hit someone, tell me why you were on the street at three in the morning?"
Hearing this, Eugene shot an unhappy glance at William and began cursing again. "That idiot dad borrowed my nail gun half a year ago and has been pretending to forget it. I fought with his dad earlier in the day and couldn't let it go, so I waited until early morning to go to his house and vent my anger..."
"You said my dad borrowed your nail gun? But my dad has been suffering from Alzheimer's lately. When I saw you running out of my house right after I got off work, you weren't stealing anything; you were taking your own nail gun?" William said to Eugene, a look of astonishment on his face.
Eugene was taken aback by William's words and couldn't help but ask, "Your father has Alzheimer's? How come I didn't know?"
"You never asked me! He seems normal outside, but at home he can't even tell me from my brother!" William replied, rubbing his hair in annoyance.
It was because William saw Eugene rushing out of his house that he hurriedly chased him, nearly breaking his leg.
And to get himself to the hospital, Eugene had caused all this chaos...
Looking at Eugene, William turned his head away reluctantly.
He and Eugene had known each other for twenty years and were somewhat related. They were as close as brothers.
Except for the time when Eugene served in the army for seven or eight years, they had always hung out together.
Although Eugene was nine years older, they shared the same generation, so there was no gap between them, and they got along very well.
Now, however, Eugene was facing charges for a slew of messy incidents...
William truly didn't know what to say. He felt regret and shame, and even found himself blaming his father inwardly.
Just as William's sorrow deepened, Gavin suddenly turned his gaze toward the road on the right, the direction of the town where William lived.
Noticing Gavin's movement, Madison glanced at the road and asked nervously, "I can't see anything. What is it?"
"A figure, moving much slower than the zombies. I can't make out anything else clearly."
After Gavin responded, he lifted his foot off Eugene, allowing him to rise, and asked, "Do you have a telescope in your car?"
"There's an eight-fold scope I brought back from the army. It's in my trunk."
"Key."
"For you."
Eugene tossed his car keys and sat up with a grin.
