Chapter 17 - Kick to Death

"I don't know if those two bastards can make it out of Ennis alive after they go back," Madison muttered as she started the T-Rex's engine.

As the car gradually picked up speed, Gavin pulled out his cell phone to check the battery level. Only 76 percent remained.

"Why, can't you bear to leave them after just meeting them once?" he replied without looking up, distracted by various social media feeds.

"What a joke! I just... I just think it feels good to see living people in this apocalypse."

"That's great. I actually hope to have more chances to run into people. After all, people are much easier to deal with than zombies right now."

Gavin said this while slightly increasing the volume of a video so Madison could hear the sounds.

The audio was chaotic—filled with roars, screams, explosions, and the blaring of car horns. It was utter madness.

Madison swerved to avoid a headless body lying in the road and asked Gavin casually, "Where is this again?"

"San Francisco."

"What about Los Angeles? I wonder what's happening in Hollywood?"

"I'll look for it."

Gavin searched briefly and then found a video of a fire, showing it to Madison.

"As you wish, Hollywood Hills. The fire started in Beverly Hills."

At this, Gavin smiled and shook his head. "If there's nowhere to go in the future, Hollywood might be a good choice. Maybe this fire can take care of all the local zombies!"

"Ha! I love that joke. Those stars don't even have to break a sweat. They just crawl into the beds of producers and directors, making more money than we do."

"Yes, they have more than you, but they're far from being able to compete with me."

Gavin replied casually, then patted Madison's arm.

They had now passed the body nearly three kilometers behind them.

"Slow down ahead; let me see the situation," Gavin said as he rolled down the window and used an eight-fold telescope to peer into the darkness and faint light on the right side of the road.

Madison observed this and asked quietly, "Oh yes, this is also a small town, right? What's it called? Pa something?"

"Palmer is a very small town, quite far from the main road. It developed gradually around Palmer Farm, on the edge of the forest."

"I came here with my family when I was six and bought a cow from Palmer Farm. It won a gold medal at the Houston dairy cow competition. But when I grew up, they turned the farm into a resort and made a fortune."

After saying this, Gavin set down the eight-fold scope and took out a map of Dallas he had found at a gas station, studying it intently.

After a moment, he whispered, "Route 45 splits into two before Ennis. One path goes right through the center of Ennis."

"The other keeps left, passes the Ennis drive-in theater, and skirts the edge of town."

"Us..."

Gavin paused for a moment, then said expressionlessly, "Let's wait at the fork in the road before Ennis. I want to verify something."

"Ha! I knew you were a good boss. Cold-blooded killers like Jordan are nowhere near as warm as the King of Cowboys!" Madison suddenly laughed, his large features shaking.

"If you ask me, that bastard Eugene will definitely survive a long time in this apocalypse. At least he'll outlast the little policeman."

"Besides, who knows how many living people are left in America? What if we're the only four left in all of Dallas? With those two, at least we can have the little policeman do our laundry!"

"Who knows?" Gavin narrowed his eyes, pointing at the town of Ennis on the map. "I just want to see if those two bastards can stir up trouble in Ennis. If there's a chance, it would be best to gather insights on dealing with zombie swarms in small towns based on their activities in Ennis."

After saying this, Gavin set down the map, reclined in his seat, and lit a cigarette.

Madison hummed twice and continued driving at 60 miles per hour.

After traveling nearly eight kilometers in an orderly manner, a flash of headlights appeared suddenly in the distance!

"Woohoo~"

As soon as she saw the high beams, Madison slapped the steering wheel and smiled. "I knew those two bastards would make it out alive. After all, they're just as lucky as we are!"

"Really?" Gavin straightened up, frowning at the light as he asked Madison, "Look more closely. Can Ford's vehicle possibly produce such bright lights?"

"What? You mean that's not them?"

Madison was a bit surprised, then squinted to look ahead.

After a glance...

Whoosh...

The headlights in the distance suddenly split into two groups, the second group flickering erratically. It was quite peculiar.

"There are two cars!"

Madison's demeanor shifted, her right hand leaving the steering wheel to grasp the lever sprayer.

Gavin nodded, "There are two cars, but the lights of the second vehicle are very similar to the Ford we just saw."

After he spoke, he picked up the eight-fold scope to take a closer look.

Avoiding the blinding light, Gavin used his keen eyesight to discern the details, then showed a helpless expression. "That looks like a motorhome, and behind it is the Ford. Are they really still alive?"

"Fuck, you can see it that clearly?" Madison exclaimed in surprise, then seemed to recall something and asked with a strange look, "But why were they chasing that RV?"

"How should I know? Come over and take a look."

Gavin waved his hand forward, and Madison immediately accelerated. The T-Rex's engine roared as the speed climbed to 150 miles per hour.

In less than half a minute, Madison began to slow down, and then the RV finally intersected with the T-Rex.

"Help! Help!"

When the two vehicles were about ten meters apart, a slightly hoarse female voice called from the driver's seat of the RV.

The moment this voice sounded, Madison's spirits lifted.

"Fuck, a woman!"

She quickly glanced at Gavin, who frowned back. "Don't focus on any woman—just look at the condition of the RV!"

"The glass is shattered, the body is covered in blood and scratches, and there's even the upper body of a zombie stuck on the RV's bumper!"

"What?"

When Madison heard this and wanted to look again, the two cars had completely passed each other. Even the old Ford had gone by the T-Rex.

All that could be heard was William's shrill scream coming from the Ford in the distance.

And William shouted...

"Dad!!!"

Swish!

Madison violently drifted, turned around on the road, and pursued the Ford relentlessly.

Both the RV and the Ford were speeding, at least 130 miles per hour, or over 200 kilometers per hour.

But this speed was child's play for the modified T-Rex.

In the blink of an eye, the T-Rex surged forward, appearing alongside the passenger side of the Ford.

Madison rolled down the window and shouted to the Ford, "What's the matter, shorty?"

"Fuck! My little William's bastard dad is stuck on the RV's bumper!" Eugene shouted back, gripping the steering wheel tightly, while kicking William, who was desperately trying to push the accelerator.

"Fuck you, William! It can't go any faster! Do you think this is a Koenigsegg? It's just a Ford—a fucking second-hand Ford!"

"Ahhh, that's my dad!!!"

William was completely panicked, his screams sending chills down Madison's spine.

Turning to Gavin, Madison said awkwardly, "I suddenly don't want to team up with that kid anymore. He's not only inexperienced but also a bit intense..."

"Don't joke around. Go check out that RV. I like RVs; they're perfect for the apocalypse!" Gavin commanded, waving his hand.

Madison immediately accelerated and reached the front of the RV in an instant.

Seeing that there was no one in the passenger seat of the RV, Madison continued to speed up, changing direction in front of the RV, and appearing at the driver's side.

"Help! I can't drive! Help!!!"

As the two appeared beside the RV, the girl driving it shouted to Gavin in panic.

Gavin took a quick look, his expression turning pale.

The driver was not an adult at all, but a girl who looked no more than thirteen years old!

Gavin swiftly rolled down the car window and called out to the child at the wheel of the RV.

"Shut up and raise your feet!"

"What?"

"Keep your hands still and lift your feet!"

Gavin said nothing about the accelerator or brake; he simply instructed the girl to raise her feet.

The RV was capable of moving at this speed. Had the child pushed the accelerator all the way to the floor?
