Chapter 8 - Chapter 7

Hearing Eilghy's opinion, Sheryyn said in her heart,

'It's true that I don't have a family and don't feel like I belong to one either. Just assign me anywhere you want.'

"Yes, I'm willing to go on business trips anytime and anywhere!" answered Sheryyn enthusiastically.

"Oh, so if I suddenly tell you to go on a business trip at night, you'll leave right away?" asked Eilghy teasingly.

"I don't think there's any work that needs to be done at night…" replied Sheryyn with a smile.

"Of course there is," Eilghy responded.

"May I know what kind of work that is?" asked Sheryyn.

"Whatever I want," said Eilghy casually.

"Alright," said Sheryyn, unwilling to prolong the conversation.

"You're not serious about working here, are you?" asked Eilghy suddenly.

"Of course I am," answered Sheryyn, confused by his sudden question.

"Liar. If you were really serious about working here, you should've greeted me when we crossed paths the other day," said Eilghy, trying to intimidate her.

'If I tell him the truth, that I didn't recognize him and even thought he was an annoying guy, he'll just be more convinced that I'm not serious about this job. So… I'll choose the safest answer,' thought Sheryyn.

"I was too stunned by how much more handsome you are in person than in your photo, sir. I was speechless because of how dazzling you looked, hahaha," said Sheryyn politely, trying to lighten the mood.

"Haha? Sir? You said I'm handsome, but you called me 'sir'? Do you have a thing for handsome old men?" asked Eilghy mockingly.

Once again, his unpredictable response left Sheryyn speechless.

'Does he not have any work to do? Instead of giving me a task, he's wasting time talking nonsense!' she grumbled silently.

"I was just worried it might be impolite not to call you 'sir,' even though you're still young," said Sheryyn with a polite smile.

"I don't like being called 'sir.' It sounds old-fashioned," replied Eilghy curtly.

'Fine then, I'll just call you a rude, sarcastic, weird, and utterly annoying man…' she wanted to say in her heart.

"Alright then, I'll call you CEO Dyr," was what came out of her mouth.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah… Though it's quite strange. For someone who claims to be dazzled by me, your expression looked more like surrender mixed with confusion" said Eilghy, recalling what happened before.

'He should be apologizing for bumping into me and spilling my ice cream!' grumbled Sheryyn inwardly.

"It may seem strange, but that's how I react when I'm captivated by a handsome man like CEO Dyr, hehe," said Sheryyn with a flattering smile.

'Tch, there's nothing handsome about that sarcastic face!' thought Sheryyn honestly.

"Fits perfectly. Ugly person, ugly attitude," said Eilghy with a smirk.

Sheryyn grew increasingly tired of his irritating remarks and silently wished he'd just give her the task already.

"Excuse me, CEO Dyr, have you decided on the work related to the new project?" asked Sheryyn.

"Here, read and understand this carefully. It's just an initial task. If you can handle it, I'll give you the real one," said Eilghy, handing her a document.

"Alright, I'll do my best. If you'll excuse me, I'll get back to work," said Sheryyn, preparing to stand up.

"Go ahead. I don't want to spend too much time with someone as ugly as you," replied Eilghy.

"Alright. Thank you very much, and good evening," said Sheryyn politely before leaving.

Right after stepping out of Eilghy's office, she sighed deeply. "Huft…"

'What a strange man!' she muttered inwardly.

As she walked back to her office, Sheryyn passed by Secretary Beatrix's desk. She greeted her politely with a nod and a smile.

Secretary Beatrix replied, "Finished already?"

"Yes, hehe," answered Sheryyn kindly.

"VGM Sheryyn, why are your cheeks red?" asked Beatrix.

"Huh?" Sheryyn paused and touched her cheeks. "Maybe it's because of the cold air," she answered.

"Hm, VGM Sher, did you know…" continued Beatrix.

"Know what?" asked Sheryyn, confused.

"CEO Dyr already has a girlfriend," said Beatrix with a condescending look.

"So?" asked Sheryyn, puzzled as to why Beatrix suddenly brought it up.

'And what does that have to do with me? Whether that weird man has a girlfriend or not, I couldn't care less,' she thought.

"Oh, I just thought you seemed captivated by CEO Dyr. Your cheeks turned red, even though it's not that cold," said Beatrix, still in a teasing tone.

'Oh my God, the secretary and the CEO really are alike! Both are weird!' grumbled Sheryyn silently.

"Hahaha, does it look that way? Actually, I wasn't—" said Sheryyn casually but was cut off by Eilghy, who suddenly appeared behind her.

"So you admit you were captivated by me? Then why deny it when Secretary Beatrix mentioned it?" said Eilghy with a cold stare.

Sheryyn immediately turned around, screaming in her heart,

'Unbelievable! Why do I always end up in situations like this? Ugh! I don't even know why my cheeks turned red, but if they did, it must be from holding back my anger at his irritating attitude. What a frustrating situation!'

"Hahaha, I wasn't finished speaking yet… What I meant was, I didn't expect Secretary Beatrix to think that way. I'm just sensitive to cold, so my cheeks turn red easily," said Sheryyn calmly, trying to stay composed.

'If they keep talking about my cheeks being red, this is beyond ridiculous!' she thought.

Ring… Ring… Ring…

Eilghy's smartphone started ringing.

Because of the call, Eilghy quickly walked away to answer it. Before leaving, he said,

"Secretary Beatrix, I'll be meeting with the Commissioner. I might go home afterward. Please send the briefing materials for tomorrow by email.

And as for you…" (he glanced at Sheryyn) "…work hard."

Then Eilghy left to take the call.

"Alright, have a safe trip," said Sheryyn and Beatrix together.

"Secretary Beatrix, I'll return to my work now," said Sheryyn.

"Yes, VGM Sher. Have a good day," replied Beatrix.

'Huft, thank goodness this situation is finally over. If not, I might've gone insane listening to all their pointless talk,' grumbled Sheryyn inwardly.
