After that last exchange with the crew, he was sitting on the deck of the ship, as he was punished by Eve to take the first night watch.
He heard a soft footsteps, it was Juliet
"Vane.."
Vane turned around to see the beautiful woman in her nightdress, it was a long black dress, with dark blue stars weaved on it, she was holding a bowl of soup.
"i thought you'd be hungry..."
Vane nodded as he couldn't stop himself from saying something to annoy the girl
"it's like you know when everyone hungry"
Juliet pouted and looked away
"Hmph! you all are a bottomless pit when it comes to food"
He laughed, knowing what she said was true
"indeed we are.."
Juliet sat next to him, as she placed the bowl of soup between them
Vane took the bowl and took a long sip out of the soup
"delicious as ever".
Juliet smiled as she was looking at the night stars
both of them sat in a comfortable silence, the night breeze was both soft and calming for the two of them
"I meant to ask..two questions, if that's okay with you".
Vane nodded while slurping the soup, he placed the bowl away, intending to listen to Juliet.
she thought for few minutes, as if considering how to ask her questions
"What did you want to be when you grow up?..when you were a child"
He considered her question for a moment, before replying:
"Someone who's both righteous and feared, little bit mischievous"
Juliet laughed at the last part, before composing herself and adding
"don't you wish to change?"
Vane just leaned back as he stared at the starry sky
"I wouldn't, I've changed alot, that only made me realize one thing, I am who i am, and I've been through enough to find out who truly Vane is"
He paused for a moment, his expressions turning wistful before adding:
"I won't change it for a penny."
Juliet just smiled and looked away
"it'll be a shame if you did, everyone loves this Vane"
Vane smiled before asking his tone still wistful
"who's Vane to you"
Juliet's smiled turned into a thinking one instead
"hmm let me see...,Vane is a saviour, if I haven't met you, something horrible would've happened to me".
she added
"i already asked the crew what they think of you, Arslan said you're like his brother, Ivy, Dane called you a lunatic ally, Ray thinks you're the coolest one around, and Eve, she called you family".
Vane smiled
"Lunatic ally huh..".
'Fits me well i guess'
Juliet went back to her room, leaving Vane alone.
After a while the sunrise was happening, giving Vane a warm feeling, maybe Africa wasn't a doomed continent, after all the weather was nice, better than europe so far.
