Chapter 9 - First Invention(1)

Zayn got an early rise the next day, feeling fully refreshed and invigorated to begin his unsure pursuit.

He sprung off his bed, just fizzling with determination, before leaving his basement-like space with a chest full of optimism, but before that he needed to do a little something first.

About an hour later, the young couple arose into another grateful day only to be delighted by the tempting aroma that streamed over the entire house.

They both looked at each other, surprised to see each other in bed, indicating that neither of them were the reason for the entracing scent.

Tentatively, they crept out of bed and into the kitchen, shocked to see that breakfast was already prepared and plated on the table.

"Good morning. I see you're awake," Zayn greeted cheerfully, easily reading their surprise.

They were lucidly etched with stun, informing Zayn that they certainly weren't expecting this.

"How do you like the house", he asked, pointing towards the neatly dressed and beautifully decorated home, with an latent intention to fuel their awe.

They marvelled, perplexed by how he alone had time to do both work commendably well before they even had the chance to wake up.

"Breakfast is served", he announced, breaking through their astonishment as he directed towards his sumptuous meal.

The aroma was tantalizing and its looks even more mouth watering than it smelt but even with its profound exquisiteness, their lips remained hesitant to grab a bite.

"It's called pizza" he cleared up. " It's just bread and sauce. Try it. You're going to love it."

This was a meal they had never seen much less tasted before, so they weren't so sure, but tugging even stronger than their uncertainties was its dreamy aroma, and when they tried it, boy were their lips craving more.

Zayn didn't even have to ask them what they thought of it. The satisfying hums they made followed by the nearly scraped dishes were an undeniable kudos.

"If you want, I can teach you the recipe?" Zayn offered.

"Please do. This is outstanding. What's it called again?" She asked, slightly distracted from trying to grab the remaining stains of sauce on the plate.

"Pizza. It is a very popular dish where I am from."

"Pizza," she memorized meditatively.

"This is phenomenal", Felix commended with a mouth pleased with food. "I wish I could stay so you could keep this stuff coming but sadly I have to go to work."

Felix was a reputable blacksmith in their town who could handforge numerous art work from metals.

His skills weren't only to thank for his professional dexterity but his powers as well.

Just so happens that Felix was a mage equipped with the control over fire and metal, almost like he was destined to be a smith.

He had already used his Inspect skill this morning, so he could also tell that Mary wasn't any different.

She was able to manipulate water and wind, a tranquil reflection of her serene characteristics.

"Do you mean The Forge", Zayn enquired. "I'll like to come too", he proposed in earnest enthusiasm.

"What for?" Felix laughed. "You don't know how to smith."

"Yes but I wanted to check it out and while I'm there try something as well," he revealed.

Felix wanted to make out what possibly a kid could try in the forge but bitten by curiosity he decided to allow him anyways. 'Maybe he could learn a thing or two,' he thought.

"Sure. Why not," Mary agreed before he could.

"Great!" Max thanked, heading back into his room and quickly out again ready to have his first forging experience.

Actually, the side reason he really wanted to go was because his first idea for an invention had already failed.

He thought to himself earlier in the morning that technically, introducing a new dish that no one had ever witnessed was more or less an invention.

The scope of creation wasn't exactly defined so lazily he made his culinary 'invention' but was slapped by the stinging absence of a congratulation remark.

'Guess I'm taking the long way, then,' he sighed.

Him and Felix left and within a few hundred steps arrived at the magnificent place called The Forge.

This was the center piece of the town. The economic wheel of inter-communal prowess. Without The Forge, the entire town could spiral away in a hurricane of penury.

But it wasn't actually just a building but numerous semi-circular igloos of bricks fashioned with necessary forging tools and facilities embedded within each one.

Each worker had their own station, where they worked and produced lots of metallic implements.

Felix got right into his work, expertly folding and heating each dense piece of metal, moulding it into the shape he desired.

Despite being and expert, this kind of practice isn't one you easily grow overfamiliar with. It actually took him about an hour and half to fully create a mundane medium-sized bowl.

Felix heaved at the sight of the first creation of the day, wiping off the sweat beaded over his forehead and digging right into the next.

Zayn obsrved for a while but then decided to get into his own business.

Quickly commiting to memory, the functions of how each tool was used in creating and its synergy in design, he grew a bit more confident in what he mentally synthesized.

He picked up a large pan and left the dome, returning back, with the pan a bit heavier and full.

"Time to get started," he rubbed his palms excitedly.

Picking up a shovel, he shoved piles of earthly granules into a terracotta vessel, before the vessel was placed in a kiln which was heated by burning wood and coal in a chamber underneath.

The heating process requires extreme patience as sand did melt so easily.

After what felt like infinity, a viscous transparent plastic bubbled ready.

Having prepared the tools for the next phase of his project, he took the crucible out of the kiln and got right into shaping.

The precise materials needed for this step wasn't quite what the forge offered but he settled with what he had.

Dipping a hollow earthen rod into the mixture, piping the semi-plastic ooze wasn't long after.

By blowing and rotating, veering through his intended shape was made possible and at the end, he created a very close attempt to what he wanted.

[Congratulations! You have completed your first invention]

But then something unexpected happened.

It shattered.
