Chapter 11 - Glass

***

"No. It's called glass", Zayn reproved for the umpteenth time that evening, unable to fully explain to them what exactly it was.

"But it looks a lot like ice plus it's unusually warm, so don't you think that warm-ice maybe a better name than glass", Mary opined, buried in a bit of confusion herself.

"That already exists and it is called water", Zayn argued, his words soaked in growing annoyance.

"So you really made this out of pure sand. But how?", Felix harried, refusing to step out of his moment of stun.

"Yes and a few other things plus you were with me all day", Zayn hanged his head, pinching the bridge of his nose in multiplied frustration.

"You know what? You don't need to know everything about it, just how it works," he gave up, already concluding on trying to explain any further.

He picked up the transparent object he designed, radiating its beauty as he loomed it aloft for a better description.

"It can basically be use for a number of thing like this", he said, referring to the design on his palms. "It is a necklace."

"Unlike marble or any other material, this by far loosens the strain of unnecessary weight. It is light and has a crystalline appearance, greatly developing on its beauty."

He went on and on and after he'd fully expantiated on the limits of its usability, he needed acute feedback from both of them.

"So how is it?" He asked just to confirm, not like he was fully confident in what he'd created.

"It's marvellous. Who would have guessed that simply melting common sand could create something this otherworldly," Mary answered just as Zayn had expected her to, well almost.

Zayn smiled as she mentioned the word 'otherwordly' making his smile in a guilty sort of way.

It wasn't exactly his own brilliant discovery but it was sure was his creation so he didn't think too much on it.

"I was kind of hoping you'd say that," Zayn muttered, leaking out a generous smile.

He reached into his back pocket pulling out a duplicate he'd made after the first.

"Here", he handed the spare into Mary's hands, the latter etched with numerous intricate patterns over its curvy exterior.

Mary gasped, her surprise stretching longer than normal. She wasn't expecting to be the first beneficiary of his invention.

She quickly put it on, unable to hide her urge.

"How is it?" She asked already flaunting its beauty.

"Wonderful," Zayn laughed.

Realizing that she hadn't, Mary thanked, her voice coiled in deep appreciation as she basked in his unexpected offer.

"I made that one just for you," Zayn revealed, noticing the unusual silence Felix emitted since after Mary received her present.

"Oh I see," Mary laughed able to read his expression

His thoughts were quite palpable and the look on his face easily identifiable.

His absence of words unfortunately didn't originate from the view of Mary's beauty when she put it on but rather from a subtle sad feeling of puerile jealousy framed unhidden over his face.

Though, it wasn't a severe thoughts, he assumed that if anyone deserved anything, at least for just being there for the entire project process, he'd thought it would be him.

Mary's humble cackle dimmed to a persistent side smile before Zayn did some chortling of his own.

"And don't think I forgot about you Felix", he laughed, with a contempt voice of superiority, like a mother handing a piece of candy to her little one.

"This is yours", he offered, making Felix feel a bit embarrassed as he received it.

"What is it?" Felix asked.

"What is it?", Zayn repeated, quizzed that he asked. "I thought you guys were well familiar with rings."

"You guys?", Felix said again, perplexed at the group he was referring to.

"I mean...ehm... Don't worry about it", he closed, unable to think of a cogent excuse.

'Got to be careful with my references from now on.'

"See," he pointed. "It's a ring with a unique feature," she added, taking their mind off his blunder.

"Look into the little orb on the top," Zayn instructed.

"Wow. I can see houses a-and trees inside. Little homes and streets as well. So little, but how? Did you do all this?"

Zayn humbly smiled with a shrug, refusing to defer the real source of his experience.

"Feeling special now?", Zayn questioned with proud eyes of sheer sly.

Felix smiled a yes, feeling overly contempt with his present.

"But you know", Mary chimed, her tone immersed in intent. "I know a few people who would be seriously interested in a design as this."

Zayn knew where she was coming from. Come to think of it, he had never really thought of it before.

He had been so engrossed in achieving the system's requirements that he never considered making some pittance on the way there.

And honestly that wasn't a bad idea. Making money using his inventions was an ingenious methods of paving wider routes to a better future.

Knowing that his commodity will be a huge selling point, he smirked not only at the resource he could supply to produce more efficient and productive creations but even more at the power and influence that lurked behind.

All along he had been stroking his imaginative beard, beclouded by the prospective daydream he just had.

"I think that would be a great idea," he conferred, bringing in a wealthy smile on into the discussion.

"Okay. Tomorrow, I'll ask them if they'll be interested in any jewelry–"

"Not just jewelry though", he butt in.

"Cutleries, dishes, cups. Everything!"

"Everything?", Felix asked, eyes wide open.

"Everything", Zayn confirmed, his voice firmed with a stand if surety and determination.

He knew it would be easy but he needed to show the crowd just how useful this 'warm-ice' could be.

His rise to power had to begin somewhere, so why not here and now.

Joggling numerous designs of various implementations of glass he prepared vigorously for a myriad of work that awaited him tommorow.
