Chapter 16 - Sit on my thighs, Mo Yi

For some reason, they didn't show any form of resistance to my decision.

As if they had already decided that I would end up with nothing in the long run, but I really didn't care about them, because this was a company that I run. I would prove to them that I wouldn't be looked down on upon just because of my marriage status.

"Did you hear? Director of Finance, was super pissed after returning to his office."

I froze and decided to stay in the cubicle, regretting why I had to use this instead of the one in my office. Maybe it was because it was the closest to the boardroom and I really needed to go?

Anyways it was a stupid choice.

But here I was perking my ears to listen to them babble about me. Even forgetting to breathe, in fear they would stop talking and immediately leave.

"Why wouldn't he be pissed, the foolish CEO of AURORA is back. Everyone is already getting tired, even before she graced the boardroom."

"For a gold digger like her, won't it be better stay in the comfort of her home and keep spreading her legs for her husband?"

"I mean, what exactly does she have to show to us here?"

"It's a complete waste of our time."

They laughed heartily, and I rolled my eyes, a sudden rage consuming me to the point of clenching my jaws and fist, resisting the urge to get in there, grab them by the hair and give them a good beating.

These were the women I pay monthly wages to. And they go behind their bosses back and gossip such vile nonsense.

I agree, I never took this company serious, but now that I have been given a chance to live again, why would I throw a good chance to get rich and retire at the countryside.

A scream tore out of my throat internally.

They laughed and taunts continued as they left the bathroom, and after waiting for their footsteps to die down outside the bathroom, I came out, only to free as I stared at the reflection of myself on the mirror.

The only thing that changed between the woman standing and the woman in the reflection was that one was the woman of the past, while the other one was the woman of the present.

Time was the only solution to prove that I was not a naive and foolish woman.

I may not have the time, but the desire to reach my goal, would push me to improve no matter what. No matter how much Yichen's favor has changed, one cannot depend on such emotions, it might lead to possible ruin that would be too late for repair.

Once I left the bathroom, I found Jing Xu standing right outside as if he was waiting for me.

"Have something to say?" I asked with a tilt of my head.

He cleared his throat, feeling jittery from where I stood. "You seemed different." He declared.

I flinched, and laughed dryly. Was it that obvious? Did they notice something?

"Why do you say so?" I asked with a wry smile, avoiding his prying gaze. He shrugged, and gestured for me to walk.

"I don't know, you usually don't get to say so much before. Always spacing out." He replie as a matter of fact. I chuckled. Because he was in fact correct.

I always had a lot on my mind while at work, that there was really nothing I could really do or decide. Now that I am looking back, Jing Xu and the minister of finance, did the whole work of holding the business for a long time.

Realizing this, I turned to face him, and he froze almost running into me, his eyes wide in surprise.

"Is anything the matter mam?" He stuttered, and I shook my head.

"Just remember that I owe you dinner atleast." I continued walking, leaving him in surprise and a little blank but he catched up sooner than later.

Once we were in my office, I fully went back into reviewing all the emails, and documents that needed my attention.

"While you were away, I and the Director of finance, took on the job of catering to urgent needs. And thanks to Mr. Mo, the company kept on running even when you were not here to settle everything." Jing Xu reported.

And my fingers froze on the keyboard.

Mo Yichen kept the company running? Was there something I missed in my past life that I didn't know about.

Surely, he gave me sole ownership of this business, so why did he see the need to protect it?

I raised an eyebrow, Jing Xu must have seen the skeptical look on my face, because he sighed heavily, as if he had aged a thousand years more. "Because you were absent at work most of the time, and not treating the job seriously, the Director of finance, always reported to Mr. Mo about this."

Oh so that was why. Mo Yichen had no choice but to interfere.

But he was someone that would never care if he lost one company, because he could gain another one in a second. He was a fast growing business tycoon, that grows as fast as a virus, sweeping all across the whole country X, and even going as far as other countries.

He was cold, and there was no way he would simply help the company, just because it belonged to his wife.

It was a waste of his time. So why?

It bugged me, but I shook my head violently removing the thoughts from my head. Now was not the time to be thinking about Mo Yichen.

Jing Xu continued to provide me with reports concerning what was happening inside the company, and I continued to review the documents that seemed like it had no end to it. I wanted to escape I truly did, but the more I kept on clearing the list, the more it pops up.

"Mrs. M0—"

My brows drew into a deep frown and I continued to scribble my signature on the papers that needed my urgent support.

"Mrs. Mo!" I jolted upright, my head snapping up to meet Jing Xu's worried gaze.

"What happened?" I asked, with a skeptical look, he gestured to the clock hanging by the door, when I glanced at it, I gasped.

It was freaking eight already?

"What the?! When did it actually get so late?!" I groaned. Looking back to the documents on my table, that were still yet to be reviewed.

Jing Xu shook his head, "You were to engrossed with work, you didn't notice the time go by."

That was true, my head was pounding, and the only thing I wanted to do was get a good rest. But the pile of work was staring at me.

I shoved my chair back, the wheels shrieking in protest, and raked my fingers back through my hair, letting out a sharp, frustrated hiss. I felt the overwhelming urge to sweep every document onto the floor, but managed only a fierce, silent thump of my heel on the carpet.

Just then my phone buzzed. It was Mo Yichen.

"Be down in 10" He commanded and I groaned, another headache seemingly turning worst. I didn't want to leave the office if possible, I didn't want to live in that house.

This man gave me headache more than the stack of work I had.

Jing Xu immediately collected the scattered files on the table with practiced speed, his face showing a mix of worry and resigned understanding.

"Mrs. Mo, I will ensure these are okay. Please, don't keep Mr. Mo waiting."

With a weak thank you, I packed up. Bade Jing Xu home, and hurried downstairs. I stopped short at the curb. The driver opened the door, and I felt the air seize in my lungs. Mo Yichen was already sitting in the passenger spot, his long legs taking up the space I was meant to use.

I raised my brows.

"Can you scoot over, Yichen?" I asked, already losing my patience, but he didn't budge.

"Get in." He commanded, and I pressed my lips into a thin line. I wanted to go around the vehicle, but he suddenly grabbed my hand.

"Sit on my thighs, Mo Yi."
