The moon rises high in the starry sky, and clouds move with the wind across the firmament.
In Roxana's mansion, there was a heavy silence until...
BOOOM!
A powerful gust of wind blew away the entire entrance to the mansion and raised a large cloud of dust.
Amidst the smoke and splinters, the bald man from the Inquisition flew into the mansion's enormous garden and landed with a calm gesture. His eyes shine with a golden light; he took the crucifix from his chest, and it turned into a mallet that gives off a golden energy.
"Lucas, I didn't expect the whole room to explode out of nowhere." Suddenly, a woman dressed in a nun's habit appears, just like the bald man; her outfit seems to be made for combat, and in her hands she holds iron gloves and a large silver cross.
"I agree with you, Effie," Lucan said in a neutral tone, "But she's a noble vampire, and she belongs to the Vânt family, so it's going to be difficult to kill her."
"It will be difficult to kill her, but you have me, so we have a chance," Effie said.
They both look up at the sky and see a vampire staring at them with hatred, her eyes red as blood, shining intensely.
Roxana's anger grows as she sees how those worms from the Inquisition treat her as if she were easy prey, invading her home... killing her servants, whom she had grown up with since childhood, and still despising her! Unforgivable!
"You worms are so arrogant," she says furiously. A bloody pressure leaves her body—she's going to kill them!
"Sigh, Effie, begin." Lucas took up a battle stance.
"I understand, but be careful, she is from the Vânt family, which will be problematic." Effie sticks the cross into the ground, then folds her hands in prayer and says, "Lord God, One and Triune, together with Mary, reign over me and mine, and allow nothing and no one to harm me." The silver cross gave off a golden glow that covered Effie and Lucas' bodies.
"Perfect as always, Effie," said Lucas, and he flexed his joints, gathered strength in his feet, and jumped. The ground collapsed and sank.
Roxana sees the bald hunter of the Inquisition approaching at high speed and, with a calm gesture, attacks him with a powerful blast.
Swoosh!
"Kakakaa! You think that's going to stop me!" Lucas covers the mallet with golden energy and swings it through the air.
The mallet easily destroyed Roxana's attack, as if the attack were nothing more than child's play.
"Tsk." She clicks her lips in annoyance and compresses the wind into a single point, launching powerful blades, but all her attacks are stopped by a golden barrier.
...
Kronii, standing on a tree branch, watches the fight unfolding in the air, fixing her gaze on the other Inquisition hunter who has her hands clasped in prayer.
"Looks like I'll have to do some extra work." She sighs, not wanting to fight those hunters, not out of fear, but because she's too lazy—she really is a lot like her master. "But since she's Lady Sesha's friend, I have to help." She climbs down from the tree and, as soon as her feet touch the grass, she runs at vampire speed.
Effie, who is in a praying pose, constantly supporting Lucas... "Uh?" She senses something approaching at high speed, turns her face, suddenly sees another noble vampire, and creates a barrier in front of her.
Kronii, with her vampiric speed, disappears and reappears behind Effie. Her nails grow rapidly and dig into Effie's shoulder.
"AHHHH!!" Effie screamed in pain and made Kronii bite her neck, causing her to scream even louder.
"EFFIE!?" Lucas tried to run toward Kronii, but just as he was about to help, he was intercepted by a gust of wind.
"Church dog, you're too arrogant." Roxana points her open hand at him and attacks with multiple wind blades, smiling.
"Shit!!!" He covers himself with his hands, but without Effie's support, he is thrown to the ground.
Boom!
A cloud of dust rises. A few seconds later, it clears, revealing the bald Inquisition hunter in a small crater, with multiple cuts all over his body and bleeding profusely.
Kronii, who enjoys the cry of the hunting bitch of the Inquisition, sinks her fangs much deeper and separates herself from her, with a sadistic smile for what she has just done.
"No! No! No!... No! NO! NOOOOOOO!" Effie desperately grabs her neck, feeling her body heat up and the desire for blood fill her senses, but her skin becomes corroded, sticking to the bone; her eyes become empty, emanating an unhealthy glow.
"NOOO! This... Grrr! I'm a follower... Grrr!" She is losing control of her body, and her consciousness is fading, replaced by an insatiable hunger. "God... Grrr! Where are you now? GRRRR!" She couldn't finish her sentence, and only a guttural growl remained.
She had turned into a ghoul!
"...Huh?" Kronii went from confusion to understanding... and "Pff..." She couldn't help herself. "HAHAHAHA~! To think that a follower of God wasn't pure, HAHAHAHAHA~!" She had bitten her with the intention of turning her into a slave vampire using the ancient method.
Thinking that, as a follower of God, she would be pure... but to her surprise, she was not a virgin!
The smell that the ghoul Effie gives off is a mixture of rusty iron, rotten meat, and stagnant water.
"To think that a follower of God would be so filthy," Kronii covers her nose with visible disgust and contempt.
"Damn you, vampires!" shouted Lucas, the Inquisition hunter. It was like the cry of a demon, with tears running down his cheeks.
"Fuck you, you piece of shit!" Roxana yells at him, laughing hysterically. This was what he deserved for killing all her servants... "Uh?" She looks to the side and senses many presences. "Kronii, we have to run!" she says, covering her body with wind and fleeing.
Many miles away from Roxana's mansion.
Roxana looks at Kronii: "Where is my husband?" she asks coldly. She doesn't know why, but she wants to see him quickly.
"He's at her friend Selene's house." Kronii swallows hard. She's never seen Roxana with such a cold expression; it looks like she could freeze hell itself.
"Thank you," she takes out a latest model phone and looks up an address. "See you later, thanks for your help," she walks to a nearby street, hails a taxi, and leaves.
...
Roxana's mansion garden.
Lucas tries to resist the attacks of the ghoul Effie. He doesn't attack her because, even though she has become what he hates most, she is still his lover.
Suddenly, more Inquisition hunters arrive in their priestly robes, crucifixes around their necks, observing the complex situation.
"Lucas, you have to finish her off so she can go to heaven," said a man with long black hair in a sad tone. Seeing a comrade turned into a ghoul is heartbreaking.
"..." He finds himself hesitant, not wanting to kill his lover... "Damn vampires..." he muttered in a tone laden with hatred, remembering how that vampire had sunk his filthy fangs into Effie, filling him with rage and hatred.
He dodges one of the claws, and seeing his lover salivating and growling like a hungry animal, he closes his eyes for a brief moment and opens them again. "Let's begin with the purification," he said after standing next to the other hunters.
They waste no time.
The hunters rip the crucifixes from their necks and throw them in four directions. The chains clink with a metallic jingle that cuts through the air. The crucifixes fall, sticking into the ground and forming a perfect cross.
Another hunter opens the Bible. The pages tremble... shake... and suddenly begin to fly away on their own like a white swarm.
"GRRRR!!!" The ghoul Effie writhes, her muscles tensing under the golden light. The sacred leaves stick to her skin, burning her and sealing every attempt at movement.
"Begin now! I can only hold it for five minutes!" shouted the Bible hunter, his face covered in sweat and his eyes glowing gold.
The remaining inquisitors, including Lucas, clasped their hands together as if to pray.
And everyone, in unison, begins to pray.
"Beloved Lord Jesus Christ, cover us with your Holy Blood and purify our impure souls.
Free their minds, bodies, and spirits from all corruption and sin.
May your blood wash every corner of their being...
And return this aberration to the dust from which it should never have risen.
Amen."
The crucifixes burst into a golden glow that rises upward. From the sky descends a pillar of golden energy, a torrent of light so pure that it burns even the air it touches.
Effie's scream turns into an inhuman roar, a sound so guttural that it makes the ground shake. Her body slowly disintegrates into light, flesh, and bone, reduced to dust under the weight of divine "mercy."
Silence.
Only a handful of gray ashes remain floating in the air.
Lucas lowers his head. His voice, firm and solemn, breaks the silence.
"May his soul find eternal rest..."
Everyone responds in unison:
"Amen."
