Becky could feel her ears pounding. Voices of different tones and pitches echoed in her head while nearly transparent creatures floated around her. They weren't completely invisible as she could barely see light reflect over their bodies like they were magical mirrors.
Her hand that burned from holding the book for hours, suddenly felt empty and extremely light.
Roark was still fighting the roach monster and didn't need her help in any way, so she looked down.
A milky white hand lay on the ground beside her while blood dripped onto it and soaked the ground.
'The book… is gone?' she asked herself before she realised what had actually happened. Her hand had gone missing — No, it was right there. It just wasn't attached to her anymore.
"AHHHHHHHHHH!!! MY HAND!!!" she screamed and finally spotted the black book. It's covers flapped like stiff limbs as it moved further away.
Roark jumped far away from the monster and glanced at Becky before he let out a sigh.
"The professor's guesses were right…" he muttered as he shifted his focus back to the roach, his hands now holding a yellow flare.
But just as he was about to use it, he saw the giant cockroach's body twitch. A moment later, it fell to the ground and didn't move.
Right behind it stood a person he recognised and the first thing he felt when he saw her, was pure rage.
"NYX!" he yelled as took a step towards her.
"Not now, Roark." she said, her tone calm as she turned around and ran in the direction of the book.
All six people watched at the book stopped in front of Amon and jumped up and down like a puppy.
"Huh… now that's unexpected." he muttered as he looked down at the book.
[Omniscient_Author: …. for fucks sake, how many true gods have their eyes on you?!]
[Omniscient_Author: That book belongs to the God of Lust. He's dead but that man was shrewd and he was also the one of the gods who kept your planet safe. The moment he died, all hell broke loose. He was the first son of the God of Hell.]
[Omniscient_Author: Looking at the book's behaviour, it should be safe in your hands but make sure it doesn't fall into the hands of others. It'll only bring them disasters.]
Amon was silent for a few seconds before chuckled, "I see, come to daddy then!", he said and the book immediately jumped onto his head.
It parted at the center and rested on his head, making him look pretty comical but he didn't mind. He focused his attention on Roark, Becky and the others who were injured.
"Mike." he muttered and handed over an FFF rank health potion, "For Becky. Make sure her hand is attached before she drinks this."
Mike took the potion and ran while the book on top of Amon's head jumped up and down while it's pages flapped in protest.
"Sit still doggy." Amon said casually as he walked towards Roark, the man who threatened him to leave Nyx's team almost a year ago.
Everyone thought that the reason was Becky but Amon didn't dare tell anyone the truth. Delusional Roark already thought of Nyx as his wife.
As Nyx caught up with Amon, she turned around to face Roark, "I left because I'll be able to make more money with a team of three. We'll be able to take on bigger risks and get bigger rewards for them."
"Why didn't you tell me?" he demanded, his face scrunched up with a glaring frown.
Amon chuckled just as Nyx was about to respond.
"What's so funny?!" Roark yelled as he clenched his fists. He never liked Amon. The guy was taller, better looking and caught Nyx's interest without having to work hard at all. If he hadn't threatened the guy an year ago, he was sure that Amon would sweet talk Nyx into doing terrible things.
"I was just wonder why she should tell you, that's all. It's not like she's your wife, girlfriend or daughter. So I just found it funny."
Roark glared at Amon and looked at the girl he considered as his, "Nyx, come back and join my team."
Nyx shook her head without any hesitation, "Sorry Roark. I left for a reason and I'm not going to come back, not unless Amon wants to."
"What…" Roark muttered softly as he looked at Amon.
Why would she go back only if Amon wanted to? Why couldn't she go without him?
'Is he blackmailing her?' Roark thought as he glared at Amon, "You… I'll save her from you!! I challenge you to a duel!"
"Hah? And why should I accept that? You're an E plus ranked donkey while I'm just an FF ranked handsome guy. What makes you think we're equal?" Amon fired back.
Roar's nostrils flared in anger but he also felt confused.
'Is he praising me or insulting me?' he thought and saw Amon extend his hand to the side. He pulled Nyx closer and hugged her from behind.
Roark's stomach seemed to twist up in a knot when he saw this sight but he pushed the feeling away. He wasn't going to trust what he saw no matter how much his gut feeling screamed at him.
After all, Nyx was his and she wouldn't do such a thing. She was someone who was loyal to her close ones.
"I won't use my special arrows." he said as he took out three arrows from his quiver and tossed them to he side.
Amon smirked as he pushed away the notifications of gaining Mind points aside.
"I'll only fight you if you put your vest aside too. It's a very nice defensive item isn't it?" he said as he upgraded his damage reflection to Rank E, bringing it from 8% to 16%.
Roark threw his vest too and readied his bow while Amon simply stretched.
At least that's how it looked on the outside.
Extremely thin, almost invisible silk strands sneakily moved towards his target.
