Chapter 23 - Obedient Dog

Roark didn't bother using his bow either as he let it drop to his feet.

As an E plus ranked awakened, he didn't fear someone who just awakened.

"Raaaaaahhh!" he roared as he ran towards Amon. His speed was similar to that of a regular human.

"Hey hey, wait." Amon stopped him midway as he took out a pack of cigarettes and used a match to light it.

Fuuuuu

He exhaled deeply as he felt a sense of calm settle over him.

"Alrighty, I'm ready." he said as he put the cigarette back into his mouth. Roark didn't stand still and resumed his charge.

'I'll make sure to kill you!!' he screamed inwardly as he sent a punch towards Amon, only to see his fist stop right in front of Amon's face.

Extremely thin cuts seemed to have formed on his arm.

"Yaaaahahahahaaaa!!! Look at that dumb face of yours haaaaahahahahahaa!!!" Amon laughed exaggeratedly as he tilted his head sideways and suddenly, Roark's fist jerked forward as the hidden silk strands yanked him off balance, sending him face-first into the dirt.

Amon walked beside him, his expression back to normal, "You see… the difference between monsters and humans is that we're intelligent. Our actions are based on thoughts, emotions and a lot of other things while monsters mostly follow their instincts."

"Why are you telling me this?" Roark said with clenched teeth as he got back on his feet, "And this… steel silk?"

"Spider silk. E rank." Amon said casually as he pointed at the bow that was a few meters away from him "I thought you'd use your bow so I made you throw away your defensive items but… you're way too overconfident."

Hearing this, Roark grinned widely. His eyes contained extreme anger that seemed to be controlled.

"Everyone has a secret."

As soon as he said that, Roark disappeared from where he stood and appeared beside his bow. A cracked ring fell to the ground as he picked up his main weapon.

'Hmm… teleportation.' Amon mused as he withdrew his silk that had lost contact with Roark.

An arrow was drawn quickly and just as Roark shot it, it changed directions and flew to the side.

"Hahahahaha looks like you really don't learn your lessons." Amon roared with laughter while Roark took out another arrow from his quiver, "Flame!"

The silk that was tied to the arrow burned and soon, the arrow flew straight to Amon.

'Fuck!' he exclaimed inwardly as he rolled to the side.

Immediately, he got back to his feet and looked at Roark who seemed busy watching him rather than going on a full offensive.

"You didn't expect that, did you?" he said as he revealed a smirk, trying to imitate Amon's expression. Only, he failed perfectly.

His dirty un-brushed yellow teeth just made him look more like a dumb pirate.

"Nope I didn't." Amon replied as he dusted off his clothes, "Anything else you got?"

Roark didn't speak and took action instead. Another arrow was shot towards Amon, making him roll to the side yet again.

Midway through his roll, he heard Roark's voice that was filled with confidence.

"Pierce Shot!"

'Huh?' Amon felt confused for a moment as he had just felt the arrow pass by him and pierce shot wasn't a skill that could be activated after shooting. The arrow had to be in contact with the user when it was being used.

Even though such information was in his head, due to his inexperience of fighting against humans he wasn't able to reach the conclusion in time. After all, he barely had a second to think.

*Schuk!*

An arrow shot through Amon's thigh that immediately began to leak blood.

"Ugh!!" he groaned in pain as he glared at Roark who had another arrow ready to shoot. He took a quick glance at his health points and took in a sharp breath. Roark seemed surprised for a moment too but his expression went back to normal in an instant.

40/160

A single shot had taken off more than a hundred health points, a whopping 75% of his total health pool.

'And it's not even a weak spot like the head, neck or heart…. I guess I got lucky.'

"Last words?" Roark asked as he took a step closer.

Nyx, who seemed to have full confidence in Amon at the start, faltered.

"Roark, stop!! There's no need to kill anyone! We'll leave… you can have the monster core." she said quickly, her voice filled with desperation as she watched Amon bleed.

"What I want is y-"

"Oy bastard, I'm still alive." Amon growled as he tossed an empty glass vial on the ground before wiping his mouth, "This shit's too sweet."

Roark didn't even look at Amon as he let the arrow fly. It zoomed towards his enemy, only to stop midway and and hang right in the middle.

It looked like it was floating but as Roark focused, he saw a net.

"If I can't grab your arrows, I just need to stop them midway isn't it? All I need to do is make a net with holes smaller than the arrow head." Amon explained generously as he put his hands behind his back, imitating the professor.

"Y-you… what's with your skills?! You somehow deal damage to me without even touching me and now you can make nets?!! How can your Steel Silk be this… versatile? I've read about people who have skills to create threads but they can't use them like you do!" Roark faltered, experiencing an indescribable sense of loss and confusion.

"Blah blah…" Amon mocked him as he stomped on the cigarette he had dropped when he was hit by the arrow, "Why should I tell you? Anyways, come to daddy. It's time to take a beating."

Roark's face turned ugly as he scowled and cursed, "Screw you!!"

He ran towards Amon and took out an arrow before bringing it down on Amon's shoulder, "You darn bastarrrrd! Pierce Shot!!!"

The Arrow went in deep, making Amon wince in pain but the guy's expression quickly changed to that of pure glee.

"You actually came to me like an obedient dog, ahahahahha!!" Amon roared with laughter which cracked, twisted by his wincing due to pain.
