Chapter 46 - Mastermind

The Flash took down a dozen more guards with ease, moving around the base at super speed and double-checking every room, taking down every agent he met on his way before deciding to check on Batman.

'This is way too easy..'

The Flash, moving with confidence, was inside the room in a millisecond.

"Hey Bat, what's taking you so long?….." The Flash's questioning tone disappeared, as the last words of the sentence were said in a blur as his body accelerated.

In a millisecond, his mind was moving at super speed as he took in everything in the room, his mind working through everything in an instant.

Batman was thrown against the wall, a puddle of blood forming under him… Lex Luthor was standing to the side, his face moving in slow motion as his gaze was moving very, very slowly towards the Flash, who had just entered.

By the time Luthor caught up, Flash could have run and solved ten geometric equations…

But The Flash's focus was already on something else as his gaze turned towards the massive fist closing at the back of his head…

The fist was fast, moving towards the Flash with a speed that reminded him of Superman on the few times Clark got mind-controlled… although much slower, the impression was present.

If it was Kid Flash, he would have probably been caught off guard…

But this was the Flash… The fastest man alive… If he was focused, catching him may as well be a dream.

In a microsecond, depending purely on instinct, the Flash's body started vibrating at incredible speed as the fist passed through his head, the shockwave shaking the entire room as if a small earthquake happened.

The Flash moved in the next instant, appearing besides Batman as he picked up his friend, and with zero hesitation moved, avoiding another punch that landed on the wall, the monster's fist making the wall crack as it sank in easily.

But the Flash wasn't planning to fight… he didn't know how serious Batman's injuries were; maybe in the time it took him to win or lose, Batman could get way worse.

'Bringing a few tears would have been really nice by now…. But well, I cannot be angry, since we gave them to the kids. God knows I will not forgive myself if anything happened to any of them.'

And so, between saving Batman or fighting against this thing, his choice was already settled.

'Lex Luthor wasn't worth risking Batman's well-being… Not even close.'

In the next instant, the Flash disappeared, running out of the room and out of the facility in a straight, red, blurry figure with lightning trailing behind him.

'Keep moving…. Just keep moving…. It is alright, Bruce… You will be alright.'

'Everything will be alright…' and with that thought, the Flash started crossing miles upon miles to the nearest Zeta-tube to go back to the Watchtower, the only thing limiting his speed being his worry for Bruce's well-being.

[[Lex Luthor POV]]

'Sometimes my genius… It is almost frightening.'

It all happened a while ago when that pink menace wrecked and exposed Cadmus's existence to the world.

And once the light of day reached the public of the number of inhumane experiments that were being conducted in the facilities… the public was in an uproar.

Naturally, the government threw Cadmus without a second thought, washing their hands of it and acting innocent, blaming everything on him.

So as the Flash bolted, leaving the facility, Lex Luthor simply showed a satisfied expression.

Once the government acted innocent, he made sure that he was not going to fall alone.

He made it clear to everyone in power that if he went down, he would drag everyone with him… And while the government can ignore the truth when it is spoken by random people…

Lex Luthor wasn't just anyone… If he wanted to expose how corrupt and rotten the government is? If he truly did it, not even thinking of his own personal safety?…

Then not even the president's golden image would remain intact… If he was going to burn? Then he would burn… but he would be the one to light the fire.

And so, pressuring the government from the shadows, he didn't ask for something as impossible as clearing his name… after all, that was impossible; he was the scapegoat of half the politicians in the government.

So he asked for two simple matters… LexCorp to be left alone… The company would act like it got new management and that Lex's actions were all his own evil, not connected to the company.

The second was Doomsday's corpse… or what remained of it… Of course, they refused and gave him only a few body parts.

'The oldest trick in the book: ask for too much, and they end up giving you just what you need.'

And due to the hidden facilities of Cadmus that remained, of which only he was aware off he got rid of the light influence…

He was practically unharmed in any meaningful way.

Superboy was a failure… a half-Kryptonian with a bleeding heart… It was the only way for his DNA to be stable: to be half human and half alien freak.

In fact, maybe the only reason he didn't get rid of the boy is that he used his human DNA to stabilize the half-Kryptonian… Or maybe he didn't care enough to focus on him; honestly, Luthor couldn't care less.

So even with Doomsday's DNA and body… the limits were present… After all, there was nothing capable of forcing the DNA to hold itself together in any new clone… there was no such thing.

Until there was…

Pink Diamond… her tears were the key to beautiful possibilities… But most of all, they were exactly what was needed to force something that should not live, something that should not function, to do so.

Using the fact that the government wanted to hide the truth about the tears' capabilities, Lex pushed a few good-hearted men to expose the truth of the research, and then all went according to plan…

The chaos, the people eating each other apart like sheep…

Not knowing that the tears were already destined to end up in his hands…

All because he played his cards right.

With the tears and Cadmus's facilities all working under his direct influence and direction… a beautiful discovery made itself… Doomsday's DNA was never dead… He was simply temporarily dead?… More like in a state of being out of commission.

And so, using the Doomsday DNA with the tears of a certain pink alien, it resulted in five experiments… Four engineered failures that would die and degrade with time, yet were unexpectedly powerful…

And one perfect product… And to think all he had to do was use the corpse of that crazy man with Doomsday DNA… 'Those pink tears are really miraculous.'

Of course, many smaller details included the manipulation of the government and making Amanda Waller think that she was the one with the upper hand, and a lot of acting was involved…

The Suicide Squad, Black Adam, and the League of Assassins—he made sure to motivate them all to increase the chaos… all to allow his new tools an easier job at dealing with the heroes. All he had to do was make them think that they were doing it out of their own desires.

All the while, they were all playing into Lex's hands, serving him exactly as he wanted.

Lex Luthor walked to a small suitcase as he opened it with a small hiss sound, glancing at the two placed tubes with pink fluid inside them. "Pink Diamond… The secret to eternal life… And many more."

Luthor sat back in the chair at his office, placing the suitcase on his lap and closing it as he smiled in satisfaction, saying, "The only way to deal with an alien freak is by some alien help."

"Hahaha… I will be sure to deliver my thanks personally if the chance shows itself."

Lex looked at the monster created with Doomsday DNA… as he said, "You know what to do… And in a way, I did save your life by making you like this… Joker."

"Of course, calling it living would be stretching the word… But we both know you were a waste of space anyway, and I did let you break the Batman, something which you failed at catastrophically in your life."

Lex's face showed dark amusement as he continued, "Although I congratulate you… Even after using your corpse as a base for a better purpose, you still found a way to keep that disgusting smile…"

And with that, the ground beneath Lex Luthor's seat disappeared as his seat was surrounded by metal walls and then dropped through his determined escape route.

Once Lex disappeared, Doomsday P-5 turned his head slowly to the exit as an eerie, slow laughter echoed from behind the mask, dropping to four limbs and launching himself in a straight line like a bullet…

The eerie laughter never stopping, like an echo of an identity that refused to be extinguished… Or maybe something more… as he moved to carry out a specific mission that would make Earth lose a certain hope that they always took for granted.

And it seems, after all… chaos never left the stage.

((Meanwhile))

The skies atop Gotham were covered in lightning as Shazam and Black Adam clashed.

Wonder Woman and more members of the League, who were finished with their own cities, were moving to Gotham, since once the Kryptonians were taken by the hand-ships back to space, the chaos relatively calmed down.

Although it calmed down just to reignite with vengeance in Gotham… Once the battle with Black Adam started, shortly after, the Wayne Manor and entire streets went up in flames, causing Superman to leave Captain Marvel to handle the situation while he moved to the help in another place.

[Clark Kent (Superman) POV]

Superman was floating a good distance in the sky, studying the city as he listened and used his super sight at the same time.

'This is becoming troublesome… And much more complicated.'

To be honest, Superman didn't know where to start… First of all, there was Black Adam, who was still fighting Captain Marvel… Normally, Superman would prefer to help Captain Marvel.

But Gotham was burning… Screams, countless screams, were ringing in his ears… Knowing he couldn't waste more time, Superman decided to trust Captain Marvel to hold his own as he moved.

One instant, the Man of Steel was still; the next, a loud boom was heard as he accelerated, breaking through the sound barrier without any struggle at all.

Superman arrived at the location of the fire in under a second as he saw a dozen buildings destroyed and fire eating the entire street… With no hesitation, Superman took a massive breath as he exhaled, releasing a massive torrent of cold wind, freezing the burning buildings, moving around the streets in seconds.

Although he didn't leave… Superman would have loved to move to help other people, but he had heard it the instant he arrived here.

Something was focused on him… He didn't know how he realized it, but it was like a deep, uncomfortable feeling that something was terribly wrong.

So Superman dropped himself to the now empty, ruined street, since most people had already run away the moment the street went on fire.

And the Man of Steel ignored the impatience in his heart… Closed his eyes and listened… as his hearing, normally an ability he toned down (otherwise it would drive him crazy from the unending voices asking for help)…

But he had long since been used to it… So he filtered through all the voices in the city, focusing on his surroundings… And then a very small clicking sound registered.

And the next instant, the Man of Steel was a dozen feet away… A loud, booming sound echoing from the spot he was in as an invisible fist left a crater in his previous position.

Superman stared as the air distorted, a disgusting figure coming into view slowly.

The figure was tall and thin to an unhealthy degree, and it was covered from head to toe in molten lead fused with its skin like a terribly painful suit of armor… beneath the armor were vines of pink-like energy running across the body like blood vessels.

While its head was covered in molten lead, almost sewing the mouth shut, the two eyes were glowing pink orbs.

The next instant, Superman moved as he grabbed the head of the monster with a single hand, engulfing its face completely and lifting it off the ground.

As Superman started considering his options… from throwing his opponent directly into the sun… or just leaving them in space temporarily, such thoughts caused his fingers to tighten, making the monster feel the pain against its skull.

He let the figure fall as a horrified expression crossed his face… Not because of fear… The Man of Steel had stared down the likes of Darkseid on a good day.

But because of the sound… An infant crying… a very distorted version of it that belonged in a horrible horror movie.

The next instant, the child-turned-Doomsday-P4 disappeared again as Superman felt his breath leave his chest as he was launched like a cannonball across the city, breaking through a dozen of the ruined houses before coming to a stop…

But Superman wasn't moving… He simply laid his back on the wall as the infant sounds kept repeating in his skull like a bad dream… while the human in the Man of Steel felt like he could throw up.

With no emotions whatsoever, the Man of Steel stood up… His eyes glowing red orbs as he prepared to stop this thing from harming any more people… Although he would prefer if he could harm it as little as possible…

In those few moments, his supermind had been replaying countless figures that could have done this… And the conclusion was the same… 'Lex Luthor.'

Meanwhile, across the city of Gotham, as Shazam and Black Adam fought in a literal vortex of lightning…

While the Kryptonians in Gotham, having finished their fight, were preparing to leave the city with their captives…

And in the distance, Wayne Manor was burning…

Doomsday-P1, P2, and P3… were all doing their mission correctly:

Being a distraction… while the true target was something else entirely.

********

(A/N): So?…Did I do the smart villian right?…Everything from the beginning of this story to Pink breaking out …Lex built his plan across all that time .

He used the new information and the losing of cadmus to his advantage and to get rid of the light..

I am not a genius..So I can't really write 3-d chess character but I really tried showing Lex…Showing how a human like Lex is actually terrifying in the real canon dc..

He didn't need superpowers to do damage…He was Lex and yes he was human…But he had a grudge and the pity pride to act on it…and that was enough.

If you feel this chapter beging a little off it is because I am rushing things…The next chapter will be the last one before I return to Pink.

I hope I didn't get you all bored by showing what was happening …I am trying to make things realistic according to the dc characters…Batman didn't loose because he was stupid.

He was overextended working on so many things like Pink and locating lex and dealing with anything gotham did.

And he did it ..He made a weapon against pink or the gems that would make its grand entrance later and he found lex….He was just a step too late.

And that would cost him dearly.
