Chapter 4 - Newborn Virus?

To say it did absolutely nothing, would be an understatement. But she couldn't think of any other word that was a better fit in this situation. at the moment, Juno was poking herself, to see if there'd be some unique reaction of some sort. But still, nothing.

"It really does nothing. Nothing at all?" Dex questioned, turning in his chair to face her and crossing his arms.

Juno shook her head and closed her eyes. "Let me see what happens when I activate my ability." Juno thought to herself as she closed her eyes and activated her powers.

the veins in her body began to light up a bright white, sparking her cells. Her hair turned white, as she opened her eyes.

she put her hand to her chest and could feel the pulsing of her heart. However, it was still the same. "Yeah, no difference." Juno finally spoke "Maybe it's defective?" Dex replied, reopening the files from his laptop, it was a good thing he copied all the information from the hard drive to his computer. He had done so mainly because he was worried that if he had not, he would never be able to access the code again after Synthex transfer.

It did seem like he had made the right decision, as he could no longer use the hard drive anymore.

"So, I really did all of that for nothing?" Juno groaned in annoyance.

"Well, we don't know for sure, maybe it takes a while to activate?" Dex replied, he was hoping for the latter, he did not want to find out that they stole from Voxgen for nothing.

not to mention, the plan they had in the first place was with the understanding that after they stole the hard drive, Voxgen would know where their hideout was.

Dex hated the idea of moving, but it was bound to happen sooner or later.

"Alright, well let's get some sleep, I'll figure this thing out in the morning." Juno said with a sigh, as she laid down on her bed.

Mona had made her way over to her charging station, and she laid down. the machine automatically began to run as it indicated that mona was charging.

Dex wanted to rest, but he just couldn't. not until he found out why Synthex wasn't working. what was he missing?

"Alright, let's see how this thing works." He opened the Synthex file once again on his computer, then he began looking through the components of the code. it was a more advanced form of code, one he had never used before. "This is a form of code I could add to my codex; I'd have to look closer at it in code space." he thought to himself.

Activating his ability, he entered his code space and began going through all the code spaces he currently had open. then, traveling through the computer mainframe code space, he could branch off into Synthex code space. usually, different code spaces had different names. Code space was actually a broader term used to describe a large single person space where a Neurohacker can travel between different script areas. in code space, the script areas are commonly referred to as Code rooms, or whatever name is given to them.

Apon entering Synthex code space, Dex began to look through the endless code. since it wasn't one he had in his codex yet, in order for him to understand it, he would need to download the code. A form of code can be downloaded, but there is a risk of getting a fail, which won't let you download the code for a whole year if that happens, or downloading a virus.

Dex though, wasn't too worried about this. he had trained to grow his resilience, so he believed he had it.

opening up his codex, he pressed the 'Download new code' button. As soon as he pressed the button, an unfamiliar energy began to flow into his veins, images of the code flashing into his mind. outside of code space, if one was watching, they would be able to see him glowing from the energy of this new form of code.

every form of code was good at something different, and Dex couldn't wait to find out just what this code was capable of.

once the download was finished, Dex reopened his codex, finding the new code.

the code was called 'development code'. Dex proceeded to open the code.

doing this created a large transparent, green layer over the current code. for Dex, he could now understand the code to a simple degree. "So that's what kind of code this is." he said with a smile.

"This changes thing."

Juno was laying in her bed, when she had fallen asleep? she didn't know.

but instead of a familiar dream, or nightmare, or the period in which she would wake up and remember no dreams or nightmares of any sort.

she found herself in a white space.

the ground was reflective. in it, she could see herself. "Where... am I...?"

she walked forward slowly; every step she took made a sound.

that was the only sound within the space. "Hello...?" Juno shouted, spinning around to make sure she was watching her back. she didn't know where she was, but she was being cautious.

she turned back around, and just as she did, she bumped right into a wall. she stepped back and looked up at it, having never seen it before. "What Is this place..." she thought to herself.

"H-ello" An unfamiliar voice spoke. Juno looked around and then looked up at the wall before turning around. Whatever it was, it had taken on the same form as her, it looked exactly like her. Juno had jumped back when she'd seen the duplicate of her "AHHH!" she screamed.

and this prompted the duplicate of her, to tilt its head as it seemed to be processing something, before eventually doing the same thing.

Juno raised an eyebrow, having seen that it copied her. she raised one of her hands, and then the other version of her did the same. "What... what are you?" she attempted communication with it. However, just like before, it only repeated her words.

"Stop doing that!" Juno snapped, getting annoyed. this time, it backed away from her unsure why she had snapped at it. "What... What are you?" it repeated, pointing at her.

taking a moment to figure out what to do, Juno began to put the pieces together. this thing, whatever it was. it must have been Synthex, the neural virus. However, for a virus it was not hostile, and it looked like her. "Do you know where we are?" Juno asked it slowly.

Synthex looked at her in confusion, tilting its head. it didn't understand her. "Dang it, think Juno." She thought to herself. There was one hypothesis as to what was going on. perhaps Synthex was a newborn virus. it was Voxgen's first new experiment with the form of code they used, something they had never done before. So, did this mean that it wasn't worth it after all?

Juno wasn't able to get much time in with Synthex, as she was woken up by Dex. "Dex it's like 2 in the morning, why are you up." She yawned, rubbing sleep from her eyes. "Juno, come here quick!" Dex said excitedly, ushering her over to his computer. "Juno, sit here and just listen to this video on languages!" Dex said, prompting Juno to give him the side eye. "Okay...?" Juno said, reluctantly taking a seat in the chair and playing the video. it was a painfully boring hour, but it went over all languages including code language and telepathy, but Telepathy nowadays was outlawed. "So, why'd I watch all of that?" Juno asked.

Dex clasped his hands together and smiled. "Juno, what was the first code language ever discovered in history?" he asked. usually, Juno wouldn't be able to recall half of what the video had said, and that was the thing, she couldn't. Yet somehow, some way, the word just came out. "Plankalkul" Juno said, Shocking herself.

"How the heck did I do that?!" she looked at Dex, not knowing how she felt about what had just occured.

"Juno, I think Synthex was created multi-purposely. this is why they said it was the first advanced code, someone would have to have a high coding intelligence level in development code to create Synthex and ensure its success with no flaws." Dex explained, but for Juno he was talking in way too many big words. "Dex, you're making no sense." Juno said, crossing her arms.

"Juno, Synthex was created as a newborn virus in order for Voxgen to mold and shape how it sees reality. I think they meant to transfer its form into a humanoid once it was finished. it must have been easier to code the mind separate from the body and that's why Synthex was in inside the hard drive and not a humanoid. having Synthex paired to you in this way, based on everything I've read about it, Synthex absorbs information a lot faster and retains more than standard humanoids can, it can form its own opinions and emotions over time. Synthex can take on any form of a human, like shapeshifting. And it is an automatic stabilizer. which means if we can get its memory developed, perhaps we can do more than just stabilize your pulsebeat!" Dex thoroughly explained.
