The road outside Maison de la Croix was calm but awake — cars slid past every few minutes, and early commuters moved along the sidewalks with a quiet, mechanical rhythm. The air carried the soft pulse of a city morning: steady, refined, and perfectly suited for a place that stood so close to power.
Kairen was now completely out of the building, standing on the roadside, waiting to flag down a cab. His mind, however, was a noisy parade of petty thoughts — mostly revolving around one thing: what Sebastian's face would look like when he saw him showing up in this uniform. The same uniform Sebastian had ordered him not to wear.
He couldn't help the grin that stretched across his face. He was genuinely happy about the mischief he was about to cause. This, he told himself, was the beginning phase of playing Sebastian's games right back at him.
"This is going to be fun," he muttered under his breath, scanning the road for a cab.
