Chapter 5 - 5 WATCHED

"Is the green-eyed boy Adrien?" Arianna whispered softly.

"Yes," Rayna replied, her voice low.

Arianna and Rayna have their gaze fixed solely on Adrien; for Rayna, this was her longtime crush who she prayed would notice her one day, but for Arianna, it went on a deeper, intimate level.

"He is so handsome, right?" Rayna asked, her voice low.

"Mhm mhm." Arianna mumbled, staring at Adrien; he was her mate, but...he was a mate she would never have simply because he is a vampire. The one species that is a sworn and long adversary to werewolves.

"Wow, now we have two love-stricken birds." Raven said as she glanced between Rayna and Arianna, unaware of the tumult within Arianna.

"Raven,"" Drayce called. "I don't think we can go job hunting today.

"Why?"

"My mom's driver is picking me up today for my dentist's appointment and it's this afternoon, am sorry it skipped my mind."

"Mhm... But if we leave school early enough, we can check out the burgershop Rayna talked about."

"Hm, sure, I guess."

"Love-stricken birds, Drayce and I are off to class; you can continue feeding your eyes with sweet Adrien." Raven said, teasingly.

"What! No! I'm coming," Rayna hurriedly replied, managing to tear her gaze off Adrien.

Arianna, on the other hand, is completely taken and mystified as she continues staring at Adrien. Adrien, as if knowing he was being watched, turned around, his gaze locking in on Arianna. Adrien felt a pull, an obsession he had never experienced, as he stared at the girl with her reddish-brown hair. He never believed in werewolf bonds, but it turns out they were true. Arianna felt a shiver run down her spine as he continued to look at her. He suddenly turned back as if he didn't feel the pull. Arianna knew his reaction was expected, but she still felt a pang of hurt as he looked away.

"Rayna are we still going to the New Adventure Park?" Arianna asked finally tearing her gaze away from Adrien.

"Sure I wouldn't miss it for the world."

*************

"So is there a position available for two?" Raven asked the man at the counter who doubled as a manager and a waiter.

"Yes, we are currently in need of waiters either full-time or part-time so you can start next week."

"Thank y..."

"Raven my mom's driver is almost here. Let's go "

"Sure...wait do you smell that?"

"Smell what?"

The smell of moss, cedarwood and sandalwood filled her nostrils. There was this undeniable pull she felt. Raven turned ready to look for the source of the smell but Drayce pulled her out of the exit opposite the one they had came in from into a car.

"What's wrong Raven. You look lost" Drayce asked when they had settled.

"Nothing...nothing. where are we going?"

"Where else? To the dentist of course."

Drayce plugged in his headphones as he hummed a tune while Raven was lost in her own world. The smell was unlike anything. Appealing yet dominantly strong.

The hospital was crowded when they arrived and they had to wait a few hours before it got to Drayce's turn.

"Not an issue, just let's go, so you can drop me off at the bus stop."

"Alright." Drayce said signalling to the driver to move. "You seem down."

"I guess."

"Wanna talk about it?"

"No I'm fine I just want to get home."

Raven alighted when she got to her stop, waved Drayce an half-hearted goodbye and walked the narrow, desolate home. She tried to take her mind off the scent ehe had picked up at the burger place. it was dark already and the forest stemmed ominous whispering hidden secrets. Her mind wandered back and forth in turmoil. These were the times Raven wished her mother was still alive. Her mother's name was Seraphina Dale who had died while giving birth to her. Raven usually wished she had died in her mother's stead but as they say "if wishes were horses, beggers will ride" Her dad had remarried later on, not for love but companionship. The woman had given birth to Alexia but had left when Alexia was barely six. Since then, her dad had been the anchor of the family, playing the dual role of both father and mother offering solace to both she and Alexia. But there were times when a mother was most needed and such were times like this.

Unbeknownst to Raven, in the shadows lurked a man. Dark, elegant and mysterious. He stood on a rooftop clothed in a long dark cost that exuded darkness and danger intertwined. He spoke of mystery and power, his eyes were cold, forbidding and emotionless as he stared at the woman whose head was a mass of black hair with white streaks colouring the edges.

"What do we do about her? Your majesty."

A voice asked, emerging from the shadows.

The vampire king, Lucien Dracula said nothing but his silence was heavy. The man understanding the silence retreated back into the shadows knowing that the king's silence was not to be taken with mediocrity but revealed what a thousand words could not.

Lucien Dracula's gave didn't falter, he said nothing, but the wind seemed to be still and the cold air froze, as if the night itself awaited his command.
