I took one last look at Julian before turning away. He was mid-argument with Rico. He looked lighter for the first time in twenty-four hours, trying so hard to pretend nothing had happened to him, nothing had happened to any of us. Like he could carry the fear alone if it meant his friends breathed easier.
I didn't get why watching him bargain with the world like that made me want to stay by his side more. Why it made my chest feel too full and too tight all at once.
I pushed it down.
"Let's go," I muttered to Marco as I followed him.
Enzo's house was big. Rooms everywhere, too many hallways, too many expensive things no one was allowed to touch. He assigned everyone their rooms on the walk up the stairs, but as soon as Julian said he'd stay with Liam and the others "just for tonight," something in my stomach flipped.
I didn't let it show.
Didn't say a word.
But when he looked at me, the flicker in his eyes said he knew anyway.
