Dante's bike shot ahead, its headlight slashing through the dark as the engine's roar still pulsed through the night, splitting the wind and tearing through the trees.
Archer followed close behind, the road twisting beneath them like a restless serpent, gravel as if running away from under their wheels.
Dante's jaw was locked, eyes fixed dead ahead. His knuckles glowed pale under the tension of his grip. Every muscle in him was brimming, burning…every second they weren't moving faster felt like a second lost.
Archer's voice cut through the growl of the engines.
"Alpha…"
Dante didn't slow down . "Say it!"
Before Archer could, a sound sliced through their minds at once.

Both bikes lurched to a halt at the same time, gravel flying. Dante's head snapped to the side, his nostrils flaring.
A sound no wolf mistook.
