Chapter 1 - 1x1: Still young and happy

Laughs filled the damp air as three children played around, chasing eachoter in the part on rainy day. The youngest must have been around six years old.

It was fun for them all until the older girl with dark purple, long hair, Hexa stopped running and started staring into space.

The boy around the older girl's age with long, white hair in a ponytail, pale skin and ice blue eyes, Aatos got worried as soon as he saw Hexa zoning out. He tried waving his hands infront of her to get her back to her senses.

The youngest with short, even darker purple hair than Hexa's and brown eyes on the other hand had no idea what was happening.

There was no response. Hexa was in her own world. The others didn't know it, but she remembered her mother playing with her in the rain before Remy was born. They were running the same way in the rain.

But Hexa's flashback was stopped by a wet feeling on her head. She snapped to reality only to realize Aatos was pouring water on her.

"Why'd you do that, At?!" Hexa screamed.

"Had to stop you from potentially fainting. You always do that whenever you start staring into space." Aatos said almost too calmly.

"I just had a flashback. I wasn't going to faint!" Hexa retorted.

"Yeah yeah. It still justified me to pour water on you. Aatos responded with a snicker.

Hexa gave Aatos an annoyed look, her bottom lip in a slight pout and her eyebrows close together. Before she could respind, Remy chimed in.

"Is Hex okay?" Remy said, looking at Hex to Aatos.

"Don't call me that. I've told you a million times what it means." Hexa spat.

"Yes, she's okay. It's normal." Aatos told Remy, trying to keep the child calm and save the situation.

Remy's expression looked visibly more relaxed. It wasn't much difference, but it could be noticed.

Hexa sighed. "The flashbacks were about my mother." She said quietly.

"You are my mama so is she my grandma? Why have I never seen her?" Remy said, tilting her head to the side.

Hexa looked a little disappointed that Remy didn't know their own mother. "No. Our mother. Well, I don't know how to tell you this, but you never saw her. And never will. I'm not your mother, and never will be. I'm your sister." Hexa tried to speak as softly as possible, but Remy still gave a shocked reaction.

Remy stood there, their eyes wide in surprise. They had no idea what was going on, but Remy wished they could fully understand someday.

After years had passed, Remy had grown a lot, Hexa and Aatos had cut their hair to shoulder length, which Aatos still kept in a slow ponytail, but Remy still kept theirs short.

A year back, Hexa had concidered Remy as old enough to know the story about their mother telling the child to carry her little sibling as far as she could, how Hexa just now understood it was to escape their step-father, to start a new life somewhere safe.

When Hexa visited her childhood home one day, she found her lying on the floor with severe wounds. Of course, it traumatized the poor, sensitive preteen. So did the story traumatize Remy. She was about the same age as Hexa found out. Now both of them would carry the past on their shoulders, not just Hexa.

Remy went to a local shop to buy some cookies to munch on, when an older woman who seemed to recognize Remy walked over to them.

"I haven't seen you in so long Remy. But you're still so young and happy." She said with a smile, pinching Remy's cheek.

What? Young and happy? Am I really that happy anymore? My mother is gone. How could I be happy? And Hexa said I'm not a kid anymore, Remy thought to themself.

Remy didn't know how to respond, just smiled back at the old lady.
