Chapter 126 - The Wolves of Shadow Creek

Maya's POV

The silver knife zipped by my ear as I crouched, sensing the breeze from its trajectory. Three hunters obstructed the path into Shadow Creek, their faces concealed by masks that shimmered in the moonlight.

"I raised my hands and said, 'We're not looking for trouble.'"

"We're merely passing by."

The tallest hunter laughed. "No wolves pass through Shadow Creek anymore."

Asher let out a low growl from behind me. We'd left Luna hidden safely with Victor and Eli, miles from here. The spell holding the First Wolf was weakening daily. We had thirteen days until the full moon.

"Either shift," Asher warned, his tone threatening, "or get shifted."

The hunters lifted their arms. Spears with silver tips and firearms packed with silver rounds. They had arrived ready.

I caught Asher's eye and nodded slightly. In one smooth motion, we attacked.

I went left, he went right. The hunters were trained, but not for our speed. Not for what we'd become after everything we'd survived.
