"Now, leave my presence," Kalem commanded, dismissing Lyra with a flick of his wrist.
Lyra scrambled to her feet and hurried away from the War Room, her heart still pounding from the terrifying confrontation with Knox. She hated Jarek for always harassing her and for wanting to take advantage of her, even when she was a minor, but she could not tell why her entire body was shaking so uncontrollably now.
She walked quickly down the corridor, her mind racing. She needed to get to the vineyard before Alpha Kade found another reason to punish her. Being summoned by Alphas Kalem and Knox did not free her from Kade's orders. As she turned the corner, two figures suddenly blocked her path—a buxom omega woman and a younger girl with red-rimmed eyes.
Lyra's heart jumped to her throat at the sudden sight of them. She instinctively took a step back, bracing herself, but instead of attacking, the woman dropped to her knees before Lyra and began to weep loudly.
