Kai studied Ruby silently for a moment, contemplating whether or not to open up to her. He recalled his mother's advice and exhaled slowly, as if dragging a secret from the depths of his chest.
"Ruby, there's something you deserve to know."
"Okay." Ruby held his intense gaze, confusion flickering in her eyes.
"There's a reason your family hates mine," Kai began. "There was this intense feud, long before you and I were born."
Ruby brow rose. "A feud?" She whispered and Kai nodded, his gaze darkening.
"According to my father, there was this lucrative oil deal between the government and a group of private investors that went wrong. A huge amount of money was stolen, and a lot of people lost their lives in the process. Someone named your grandfather as the snitch who betrayed the private investors, leading to his execution. It was my grandfather who shot your grandfather in the head."
