Ruby lay on her back, staring blankly at the ceiling, her thoughts as restless as her flaming red hair scattered on the fluffy white pillow. Sleep had refused to come to her eyes ever since she spoke to her mother.
Anxiety twisted inside her stomach like a tightening rope as she wondered what could have triggered Donna's stroke.
She knew about Donna's unstable blood pressure and could only imagine what emotional storm had pushed it over the edge.
What made it worse was the crushing guilt.
Donna had travelled all the way to the city just to reconcile with her, yet Ruby hadn't given the poor woman a single chance… all because of the bitterness she still felt toward Derek.
And now that Donna had been hospitalised, would she still want anything to do with her?
Ruby pushed herself upright, the duvet pooling around her waist as she sat on the edge of the bed.
"Should she call Derek?" She mumbles under her breath.
