"Wow that is quite the number of levels I gained!"Violet muttered as she collapsed into a pile of limbs on the ground once the fight had concluded. Luna looked over at her companion and noted the sorry state she currently looked, scales were missing in numerous places, deep cuts littered her body in the spots that the wolves had managed to get both claw and tooth onto her.
Then Luna looked down at herself and honestly she didn't look a whole lot better herself, her worst injury was her left arm where she had a rough bite wound, past that she had numerous spots where she was clawed and bruised. Her armour had definitely seen better days but thanks to its enchantments it was already beginning to stitch itself back together.
Deciding that she too could use a quick break she collapsed next to Violet and used her side as a pillow. "Well I'm beat, got a good few levels though and a nice new skill."
Tiredly Violet manages to respond, "oh what did you get?"
"Healing presence, seems I can passively boost health regeneration for whoever I want around me, it not that impressive right now but it should be good once I get a few levels in it!"
Once Luna had said so Violet did notice that she was healing up ever so slightly faster than normal. As was mentioned it was not too impressive right now but would likely become quite the boon for their imitate future which will involve near constant fighting.
The two rested for around 20 minutes before they got back to their feet, Violet having a quick nibble in a couple of the wolves just to make sure she would know which part tasted the best. She then butchered a couple of them to give the meat to Luna so it could be cooked at a later point.
Once done with that grizzly task they decided that it would be a good idea to find a water source up here and so began to search around once more.
As they traveled they ran into a selection of other beasts, thankfully that didn't get involved in a battle on the scale as that wolf pack but they still slaughtered their way through the forest in search of a river or other water source. Both of them leveled up yet again during this time and eventually they did come across a small stream cutting through this upland area.
Violet also learnt what her new skill mana reinforcement actually did, and it was quite the multifaceted ability. She could now reinforce either her body or skills with additional mana. For example she could infuse her scales to boost their durability before a hit or she could pump more mana into a bolt spell to overcharge it. It was a quiet skill that lived in the background but it boosted Violets fighting prowes quite significantly.
One at the stream they both clean themselves up slightly, glad to finally be able to wash off some of a grime that had accumulated over the past many days.
As the two companions finished cleaning up they heard the sounds of something approaching, quickly looking around the two dove towards a tree which held some exposed roots and Violet instinctively coated them in the void. She was considering if she should drop it when a quick message from Luna convinced her not to drop it in this situation.
As the sounds got closer the duo prepared their attacks, Violet gathering mana for a lance attack, Luna gripping her spear whilest circulating her mana ready to activate her skills at a moments notice. Then as the footsteps reached their crescendo, out walked a truly hulking creature. Walking on 4 limbs and reaching almost 4 meters in length and 2m height, coarse brown fun covers its body, strangely though there was an aura of.. stillness around its body? It was almost like no breeze blew near it, and then it leant down to drink from the stream it almost seemed like the water stopped moveing. On its head it had 3 eyes, two in normal spots and one in the centre of its forhead. And a elongated snout with a mouth of razor sharp teeth that matched the viciousness of its claws.
The powerful creatures steps reverberated to the surroundings and the very ground itself seems to rise up to meet its every footfall. It was a truly remarkable sight and showcased a control over Earth magic's. And with a quick glance between each other, this majestic beast would be there next kill.
They watched as it made its way over to the nearby stream before bending down to take a drink. Violet chose this moment to launch off her void Lance! Only to gape in shock as the Lance crashed into its hide and was summarily deflected to the side leaving barely a scratch on its side. However, this did draw the creatures attention.
ROARRRRR!!!
A deafening roar echoed out from the beast, a solid wave of sound impacted into the two companions, its force so great they they were thrown back and left dazed momentarily. During that brief moment of disorientation the beast swept around and locked its gaze onto the two creatures that dared to attack it.
As the beast turned around it raised itself up on its hind legs revealing its underbelly and towering over them. "Oh well that's not good." Violet managed to get out as the beast landed back in its 4 limbs and began to charge straight at them. "Split up!"
Saying so Violet disappeared in a flash of void as Luna dashed to the side whilst sending off an ice bolt to see how that worked against this beast, to her disappointment it also just skittered off the beasts hide dealing no damage.
"Try physical attacks magic seems to do nothing to it!" Luna called out to Violet who responded by appearing in the creature's back and began to rake her claws along its side. To bit of their relief the claws managed to deal some damage, whilst not a significant wound it at least proved a way forward was possible. Just to be sure her guess was correct she tried to attack again whilst imbued with the void and she was unable to pierce past the hide once more!
Realising that this monster is specialised in defending against magic Violet quickly informed Luna about that fact and got back to trying to claw open the beasts back!
Luna meanwhile tried to dash forward but had to back off as a large claw slashed out towards her at blinding speeds, a void shield did pop into place quickly but it didn't even last a second as the claw ripped through it like it wasn't even there. The sudden destruction of her skill shocked Violet enough that she lost her grip and was thrown off the beasts back and slammed against a nearby tree for her troubles.
Luna did manage to avoid the claw swipe and even scored a counter slash along its leg.
ROAR!
Violet let out a roar of her own as she unleashed her dragon aura providing both her and Luna a quick burst of strength and speed. Utilising this Violet pounced forward and aimed for the beasts hind leg whilst Luna was distracting it from the front. Managing to latch her jaw around its leg she dug her claws into the ground and tried her best to tear out something important.
The Beast let out a bellow of pain and tried to twist its head around to bit at the offending dragon but this just opened her up to Luna who didn't let the opportunity go to waste. Unleashing a multi strike she sliced across the creatures neck followed by 2 swift stabs to its front shoulder, she had aimed all 3 at the neck but it managed to rotate its body to avoide the worst of the attack.
Still the wounds were piling up on the beast and it was now struggling to put weight on its left shoulder where Luna stabbed it or utilise its back leg for any stability.
Sensing its weakness the two companions decided to slow things down and not rush things, it wouldn't do to rush such a beast. Still though as the beastie sensed that its life was coming to and end it gave a mighty struggle lashing out with claw and tooth looking to deal any amount of damage to its killers. Eventually though the injuries added up too much and it dropped to the ground unable to keep itself standing. Luna then stepped up and put the great beast out of its misery with a quick thrust of the spear.

After the fight was concluded Violet loudly complained to her companion about the unfairness of that Ursa. "Why could it block magic!! That is unfair! Stupid Ursa!"
Wisely deciding that Violet just wanted to vent and she should not answer her questions she instead marveled at the number of levels she had gained today! Granted they had likely gotten quite lucky with the beasts they had ran into but wasn't taking advantage of good luck also a valuable skill?
