"Eight slots now…" he murmured. "Time to balance the team."
He started with the basics—the elements.
A tremor of mana, and the earth itself answered. From the stone floor rose a stocky elemental body, rocky arms and granite shoulders shifting into place. Its form radiated stubborn resilience.

With a thought, he purchased it. Mana drained, weaving into a summoning circle far rougher than the elementals'. The ground rippled, and out stumbled a small, wiry figure—green-skinned, jagged teeth, crude claws curled into fists.
The goblin blinked up at him, eyes wary but oddly intelligent. Unlike the elementals, this creature trembled with something raw. Survival instinct. Hunger.

"Earth. Lightning. Wind. Goblin." His eyes swept across the group, lingering on the last. "We're not just playing with elements anymore."
Preparation done, Kael guided his forces deeper. The cavern narrowed, twisting downward into jagged steps slick with abyssal frost.
The deeper they went, the heavier the darkness pressed—far beyond anything they'd endured on the surface floor. Pyraflame's fire hissed and dimmed. Even Luminara's light quivered.
Then it struck.
The abyss surged like a living tide, devouring every ounce of illumination. Shadows coiled, whispering and clawing, blotting out vision. Kael gritted his teeth, his hands clenched on his weapon.
"Luminara!"
Her halo flared desperately. She screamed—not in fear, but in defiance. Her radiance burst outward in a shockwave, peeling away the abyss in brilliant arcs of light.

"Umbra… Luminara…" He whispered, helpless to intervene.
Then it happened.

Two figures emerged from the split halves of the cocoon, each radiating power leagues beyond their former selves.
