"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 242: Wake-Up Service—Kotori's Little Sister Mode
By eight o'clock, the villa was slowly coming back to life. One by one, the girls drifted from sleep to wakefulness.
Sawa and Shido were up first, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. They'd only sipped a little wine the night before, so they looked as fresh as if they'd slept through a rainstorm.
"Morning, Shido. Morning, Sawa."
Shuo, already busy in the kitchen, greeted them with a warm smile.
"Mm, good morning, Shuo-kun!" they chimed, maybe a touch too cheerful.
But something felt off. Sawa and Shido's eyes darted away the moment he looked at them, as if they were hiding a secret. Shuo scratched his head, shrugged it off, and went back to slicing vegetables.
Behind him, the girls exhaled in relief. Their nerves had been jangling ever since Shuo caught their gaze. After all, it's not every night you spend half an hour eavesdropping at someone's door—though that was a detail neither of them would ever admit.
Once breakfast was nearly ready, Shuo began his daily "wake-up service."
First stop: Kotori's room.
He pushed open the door to find her curled up like a sleepy kitten, hair tousled, face half-buried in the pillow. But as he stepped closer, he saw her body tense—she was definitely awake, just pretending.
Don't want to get up, huh?
Shuo narrowed his eyes, grinning mischievously. Without bothering to pull back the covers, he reached out and grabbed Kotori's foot.
She jerked, caught off guard, but couldn't quite wriggle free. Opening one eye, she glared at him, then promptly shut it again—clearly not ready to face the world.
Looks like my bad habits are rubbing off on her.
"Little Kotori, not getting up yet?"
"Don't wanna."
Shuo didn't bother arguing. He reached out with his other hand, fingers trailing up from her ankle.
Kotori's cheeks went crimson in an instant. She snapped her eyes open, biting her lip, pink eyes blazing with indignation.
"Still want to sleep a little longer, Kotori?"
"Hmph. If I want to sleep, I'll sleep."
She huffed, certain he wouldn't dare push his luck.
She was wrong.
Within seconds, Shuo's fingers were dancing along her foot, tickling mercilessly.
"Ah—ah! Stop! Hahaha! It tickles—stop it!"
Kotori dissolved into helpless laughter, tears streaming down her face, her little feet curling up as she tried to escape.
"Ready to get up now?" Shuo grinned, eyes sparkling with mischief.
"You jerk! I—Onii-chan, don't…!"
Still stubborn. Shuo smirked, and with lightning speed, snatched the black ribbon from her head.
The change was instant. Without her trademark ribbon, Kotori's whole persona softened—her voice grew gentle, her eyes wide and uncertain, all her usual bossiness melted away.
There it is—little sister mode. Absolutely unbeatable.
"I'm sorry, Onii-chan… Please give Kotori her ribbon back, okay?"
Shuo shivered from head to toe. That voice—too cute to handle.
"Little Kotori, if you're really sorry, shouldn't you show me your tummy? It's only fair I get a little reward."
He twirled the ribbon in his hand, feigning righteous authority.
Kotori's face turned even redder, but after a moment's hesitation, she shyly lifted her pajamas, revealing a flash of soft, pale belly. She peeked up at Shuo, eyes glimmering with embarrassment.
After savoring the moment, Shuo handed the ribbon back. Kotori snatched it, tying it back on with practiced speed.
She shot him a look of pure disgust. "You pervy lolicon. What's with that gross grin? Disgusting!"
"…"
Just like that, the sharp-tongued, fiery Kotori was back. Shuo could only mourn the loss of the adorable little sister from a moment ago.
"Unbelievable. Bring back my cute Kotori! My Kotori would never be this mean!"
"You… you lolicon! Who said I'm yours, anyway…"
Her cheeks flamed. She could hear the double meaning in his words, but there was no way she'd admit it aloud. Not after that tickle torture. Revenge would be hers—eventually.
For now, she obediently got out of bed.
Next, Shuo headed to Tohka's room, where he found her sprawled out, drooling, one hand tossed over her eyes, her smooth white belly exposed to the morning air.
He couldn't help but let his mind wander for a second. Then he walked over and gently pinched her cheeks.
Tohka stretched, blinking up at him with puppy-dog eyes.
"Mm… Shuo, I don't wanna get up…"
He sighed, shaking his head. "Alright, Tohka. You can sleep a bit longer. But if you do, there won't be any of your favorite pastries left."
Her eyes snapped open, shock written all over her face—a look so dramatic it made Shuo feel like he'd just committed some unforgivable crime.
He spread his hands helplessly. "Don't forget, everyone loves my pastries. And Origami's got her eye on them too…"
Tohka pouted, but the threat was enough to get her moving.
Thanks to Shuo's wake-up routine (and a little help from Sawa and Shido), the girls soon gathered in the living room, fresh-faced and ready for breakfast. Well, mostly. A few were still rubbing their temples, the aftereffects of last night's party lingering.
Shuo had expected this. With a flick of his hand, he cast a gentle healing spell, washing away the girls' hangovers.
By the time he brought breakfast to the table, Origami finally wandered in, moving slowly, eyes half-closed. Clearly, she'd been up late.
"Question: Master Origami, why are you up so late today?"
Yuzuru's voice was curious, and a few of the other girls nodded in agreement. Origami was famous for her discipline—she never slept in.
"Mm… I drank a bit too much last night. Went to bed late, so I overslept," Origami answered, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. She shot a quick, furtive glance at Shuo.
Of course, she couldn't tell the real story. A white lie would have to do.
"Understood. That explains it," Yuzuru replied, satisfied.
Origami breathed a silent sigh of relief. No one seemed suspicious—except Sawa and Shido, who exchanged a knowing look.
Was it really just the alcohol?
