"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 243: Kurumi Gets Jealous—School Trip Ends
Breakfast ended in a whirl of laughter and teasing. But today was the last day of their school trip, and soon the girls scattered back to their rooms, packing up stray swimsuits and souvenirs, ready to head home.
By half past two, the airport terminal was crowded with students. Roll call echoed through the hallways as teachers wrangled their charges.
Class 2-4's names were called, and Shuo stretched, stifling a yawn. He sprinted ahead, determined to snag a window seat—the best spot for daydreaming on the flight home.
Students filed onboard, chattering and shuffling for seats. Teachers Tama and Reine did a quick headcount, then settled in themselves.
"Everyone, double-check your luggage—don't leave anything behind," Tama called out.
Bags rustled. Zippers zipped. Once everyone was satisfied, the cabin filled with easy conversation, the kind that comes after a week of shared adventures.
Shuo glanced at Sawa beside him, then, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, let his head drift onto her shoulder.
"Eh?! Shuo-kun, what are you doing? People are watching!"
Sawa's face flared red; she ducked her head, voice barely above a whisper.
Bold move, but Shuo just yawned and mumbled, "Sorry, Sawa. Borrowing your shoulder for a bit." Eyes closed, he surrendered to sleep.
Their little tableau didn't go unnoticed. Tohka and Origami kept their reactions under wraps, but Shido and Kurumi shot glances their way, unreadable expressions flickering.
A few minutes passed. Shuo drifted off, breathing deep and even.
Sawa turned, watching him. She couldn't help it—sleeping, Shuo looked even more handsome. Black hair gleamed in the sunlight, his relaxed face gentle and unguarded. The spring breeze feeling he gave off calmed her racing heart.
Before she realized, she'd gotten lost in a daydream—married life, living together, sharing mornings like this. When she snapped back, her heart hammered and her cheeks burned.
So embarrassing!
She'd actually been fantasizing about a future with Shuo.
Around them, Origami, Kurumi, Shido, and the others watched, each nursing their own envy.
Kurumi, in particular, bristled. Seeing Sawa and Shuo together was like a punch to the gut—a reminder of old heartbreak, and the sting of competition. She puffed up like an angry kitten, glaring daggers.
Damn it! Some best friend—trying to steal her man.
Even the boys in class felt the sting; the scene was pure "dog food," and their hearts ached with jealousy.
Elsewhere, a cold, irritable gaze fixed on Shuo.
Ellen, the world's top magician and former Berserker wrangler, watched from a few rows back. Her recent luck had been abysmal—caught in group photos by the Three Phantom Gods, tricked into sand pits, buried on the beach. Dark energy seemed to seep from her pores.
Damn it. She'd remember this. Revenge would come.
Half an hour later, the plane took off.
—
By five-thirty, the plane touched down in Tengu City.
"Shuo-kun, time to get off," Sawa murmured.
Shuo blinked awake, stretching. Most students had already left; only Sawa lingered beside him.
"Let's go, Sawa."
"Mm."
They joined the crowd, disembarking into the evening air. Teachers did a final roll call, then dismissed everyone home.
Shuo and Sawa waited at the curb. Soon, Tohka, Origami, Kurumi, and Shido appeared, bags in tow.
"Let's head home before Kotori and the others get impatient," Shuo said, setting off. The five girls fell in behind him.
On the way, Shido glanced over, smiling.
"Shuo-kun, you seem pretty happy. Satisfied with the trip?"
"Definitely!" Shuo grinned, his mood buoyant.
This trip had been a goldmine—not only had he won over the twin sisters, Yuzuru and Kaguya, but his bonds with the other girls had deepened. Origami's bunny girl "limited edition" was icing on the cake.
He turned, asking, "How about you all? What did you think of the trip?"
"Hehe, Shuo! I loved this thing called a school trip! We saw the ocean, swam, ate seafood barbecue…"
Tohka's eyes sparkled, mouth nearly watering at the memory. She looked ready to book another trip on the spot.
Origami, for once, didn't tease Tohka about food. Remembering last night, her cheeks flushed and she mumbled, "It was fine."
"I liked it too," Shido said, face pink. The beach scenes lingered in her mind, unforgettable.
Shuo nodded, and the group fell into easy chatter as they walked home.
Behind them, Kurumi and Sawa whispered together.
Kurumi's smile was sweet, but her eyes glinted with mischief.
"Ara ara, Sawa-chan… be honest. Are you trying to steal my man?"
Sawa froze, her face turning scarlet. She hadn't expected Kurumi to pull her aside and drop a bomb like that.
"Kurumi, what are you talking about? Steal your man…?"
Kurumi giggled. "Relax, even if you fall for Shuo-chan, I don't mind. He's just that irresistible."
She paused, then leaned in, licking her lips.
"But… you're not allowed to get ahead of me."
"Who'd compete with you for a guy? He's such a perv—I-I don't like him at all!"
The memory of last night—Shuo and Origami alone in a room—made her blush even harder. She'd seen way too much, and eavesdropped for good measure. Ridiculous.
Kurumi just smiled. "Ara, I love Shuo-chan's naughty side…"
Sawa had no words. She glanced over at Shuo, walking ahead.
Looking closely, he really was handsome. Strong, gentle, too.
Her heart skipped a beat, then she forced herself to look away.
It's just a fluke. Just an illusion!
